Monaco, here we come: This coming weekend, the premier class of motorsport returns to the Principality of Monaco for the fifth round of the 2021 Formula One season. The prestigious race through the streets of Monte Carlo had to be cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the Monaco Grand Prix is back on the calendar as one of the season’s standout fixtures. The last three races contested in Monaco (2017 to 2019) produced three different winners from three different teams – Lewis Hamilton (2019, Mercedes), Daniel Ricciardo (2018, Red Bull) and Sebastian Vettel (2017, Ferrari). The battle for pole position has been equally competitive in recent years, with P1 on the grid going twice to Daniel Ricciardo (2016, 2018), once to Kimi Räikkönen (2017) and once to Lewis (2019). Overall, the iconic street circuit has turned out to be a happy hunting ground for the Mercedes-AMG Petronas #f1 Team, with five wins so far, making it the fourth-most successful team in Monaco on level pegging with BRM. The Top Three in the all-time standings are McLaren on 15 wins, Ferrari on nine and Lotus on seven. In the driver rankings, the legendary Ayrton Senna leads the way with six wins in the Monaco GP. He is followed by Graham Hill and Michael Schumacher on five victories each. Lewis has won the race three times so far (2008, 2016, 2019).

A perfect start to the 2021 #adacgtmasters: Race one brings victory number one. At the season opener of the #adacgtmasters hosted by Motorsport Arena Oschersleben, MANN-FILTER Team Landgraf - HTP/WWR got their Super Sports Car League campaign off to a magnificent start on Saturday. After Raffaele Marciello (ITA) had booked pole position in the number 70 Mercedes-AMG GT3, he and team-mate Maximilian Buhk (GER) went on to claim a commanding lights-to-flag victory.

It was the icing on the cake of a successful weekend for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport. In the two races contested, all three Customer #racing teams scored points in the general classification. Maro Engel and Luca Stolz (both GER) in the number 22 Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Mercedes-AMG Team Toksport WRT finished fifth on Saturday and seventh on Sunday. After scrambling into the points in P15 in difficult weather conditions on Saturday, Jules Gounon (FRA) and Igor Walilko (POL) sharing the cockpit of the number 13 Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Team Zakspeed Mobil Krankenkasse #racing produced a much more convincing P4 finish on Sunday. The #adacgtmasters season continues at the Red Bull Ring on the weekend of 11 - 13 June. The points scored for pole and race win mean that Buhk and Marciello go into the next round occupying third place in the championship standings.

The two races in the ADAC GT4 Germany support series at Oschersleben also had gratifying outcomes for the brand. Marc de Fulgencio (ESP) and Robin Falkenbach (GER) in the number 7 car of Team Leipert Motorsport were twice runners-up and come away from the first weekend occupying second place in the championship standings. Robin Falkenbach has the added distinction of leading the Junior classification. In Sunday’s race they were joined on the podium by third-placed Robert Haub (USA) and Gabriela Jilková (CZE) in the number 20 Mercedes-AMG GT4 fielded by Team Zakspeed.

First podium of 2021 in the #imsa Michelin Pilot Challenge: At Mid-Ohio Raceway, WINWARD #racing posted the first podium finish for a Mercedes-AMG GT4 in the 2021 #imsa Michelin Pilot Challenge. In the third race of the season, Alex Udell and Bryce Ward (both USA) in the number 57 car mounted a charge through the field from eleventh on the grid to cross the line in third. Indy Dontje (NED) and Russell Ward (USA) made it into the Top Ten for the third time in a row, taking seventh place in the number 4 sister car and thereby enhancing their championship aspirations.

Alegra Motorsports also finished in the Top Ten of the GTD class in the #imsa WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race. The number 28 Mercedes-AMG GT3 driven by Michael de Quesada (USA) and Daniel Morad (CAN) took the chequered flag in tenth place after 2 hours and 40 minutes of #racing.

Class victory in the International GT Open: In the opening round of the 2021 International GT Open at Circuit Paul Ricard, the AKM Motorsport pairing of Jens Liebhauser and Florian Scholze (both GER) carried on from where they left off in the previous season. Last year’s Am champions in the number 14 Mercedes-AMG GT3 finished eleventh overall in the first of the two races, a result that was enough to secure the class victory. They followed this up with another podium result in the second race with third place in class. Nico Bastian and Markus Sattler (both GER) from WINWARD #racing also made it onto the podium in their class in the second race. Finishing seventh overall, the duo in the number 48 Mercedes-AMG GT3 took third place in the Pro-Am category.
