Marco Polo airport is not new to contamination with great art, to which it has reserved its spaces on many occasions. This time with the Polish artist #igormitoraj, one of the most important international authors, whose work "Sleeping Moon" is now on display in the general aviation terminal, the area where private flights are managed.
The operation is made possible by the collaboration activated by SAVE with the Contini Art Gallery, which represents the artist, thanks to which the sculpture made by Mitoraj in 2011 will remain on display at the airport for 6 months.
As with the artist's larger works, the fragmented bronze head (dimensions 63 x 89.5 x 55 cm), reclined on a pedestal, refers to a classical culture which, through the action of time, becomes the starting point for a reflection on archetypal themes such as loneliness, love, suffering.
The strong bond between Venice and #igormitoraj, who had made Italy his land of choice, culminated in the 2005 exhibition which, with 21 sculptures, wound through the heart of the city.
Now the Marco Polo links back to this profound relationship, at a time when Venice is slowly recovering its rhythm and its dimension as a city of art par excellence that will soon welcome the Architecture Biennale, which has always been a great attraction for international visitors.
