The major exhibition by Spanish artist Manolo Valdés at Palazzo Cipolla in Rome – extended to 11 September 2021 thanks to the commitment shown by Fondazione Terzo Pilastro Internazionale, the promoter of the event, and the assistance of the gallery and the loaners of the works – will be reopening this Tuesday, 27 April, as Lazio returns to being a “yellow zone”.
The exhibition, strongly supported by Prof. Emanuele Francesco Maria Emanuele, President of Fondazione Terzo Pilastro Internazionale, is produced by POEMA in collaboration with the Galleria Contini of Venice and with the organizational support of Comediarting and Arthemisia, and is curated by Gabriele Simongini.
“I really hope that the latest reopening of the exhibit venue will be the final one, and look forward to welcoming visitors to Palazzo Cipolla again, in compliance with the most scrupulous safety measures, until the coming summer,” Prof. Emanuele has stated. “Manolo Valdés is an outstanding artist, who has been away from Rome for too long and whose exhibition is well worth visiting: he draws inspiration from the most famous masterpieces in the history of art and reinterprets them in an absolutely contemporary way. In addition to his unquestionably high-impact visual language, his focus on matter, and his penchant for large-scale works, what I particularly appreciate about his work is precisely this tendency to draw upon the artistic heritage of the past in a completely natural way, in order to newly present it in a contemporary guise. This confirms my belief that art is an continuous flow, a constant dialogue between the artistic sensibilities expressed by leading artists of the past and present.”
The exhibition (inaugurated in October but repeatedly interrupted owing to the COVID security measures) is bringing #manolovaldes back to the Capital after no less than 25 years. It comprises seventy-odd works – paintings and sculptures in wood, marble, bronze, alabaster, brass, steel, and iron, including large-size ones – from the artist’s atelier and major private collections, illustrating Valdés’ creative trajectory from the early 1980s (the period shortly after the disbanding of the Equipo Crónica group) to today.
In compliance with the current regulations, the Palazzo Cipolla exhibit venue will implement new opening hours: Tuesday to Friday, from 10 am to 8 pm, last admission at 7 pm. On Saturdays and bank holidays, access is allowed via online booking at ticket.it or ticketone.it.
