Emanuel Gargano Collection

Emanuel Gargano's works reveal a profound attraction towards primordial materials, organic and pure forms coming from nature. #design thus becomes a way to contemplate the world in its simplicity, connecting emotionally with its beauty. This independent and transversal approach leads him to shape his creations in search of their inner soul, their true essence. Unequivocal objects, with a deep emotional, artistic and historical meaning, whose strongly essential and expressive character gives the environment a unique personality.

Emanuel Gargano's light collection evokes all the magic of craftsmanship and brings together the nature and culture of his homeland, Assisi, the main source of inspiration in the realization of this project. The designer cannot therefore help but be himself and experiment by starting from the authenticity of things

Thus, objects of light more than lamps were born, a perfect balance between form and function, the result of the designer's architectural vision and his #design experience, where the lighting element has always played a functional and decisive role in modulating space

The common thread of the entire collection is the attempt not to illuminate with artificial light but to attenuate the shadow or lighten the dark. It is for this reason that the light emanating from these creations seems to come from the darkness like a glow, as if to underline and enhance the original forms that produce it. The handcrafted and shaped materials seem to want to go out on tiptoe and illuminate the blurred memory of the past, manifesting the need to tell about oneself by illuminating. To guide the designer towards the realization of this project was also the need to move towards a responsible design, which takes care of environmental problems and the recovery of materials.

The Murigge book traces the sensations and highlights of the author's history in Assisi, through the natural use of light.

“I believe history holds a darkness, and must be illuminated by the dazzling light of memory; in order to do so, I used an artificial, dim light to view my past self. I experienced the joys and sorrows of times both recent and remote, when light might well have been more intense than it is today, or perhaps not... I flipped a switch, and reflected on my origins, fortunate or unfortunate as they may be. I don’t know whether it was I who needed this, or my marvelous land"

Among these creations we find Morale, conceived from the suggestion had during a trip in the Japanese countryside. Lamp made with Morali, wooden bars used in construction sites to reinforce the structures. Light and matter form a pyramidal volume.

Aura pairs two thin halos of light, one at the top, one at the bottom, creating a “suspension lamp” whose material aspect virtually vanishes, becoming weightless, to evoke a spiritual semblance, a fleeting reminder.

A graphic gesture that, by becoming material, seems to defy gravity: Cado is a table lamp epitomizing an apparent precarious balance, its carbon-steel structure looks as if it’s supported by the very light it emanates.

Vira, selected for the ADI Compasso D’Oro award, unfolds like a bodily joint. Its striking cone of light is determined by its variable length and “veerable” angle.

A magic lantern producing a cone of light whose source remains hidden: Fatua features a transparent glass cylinder you can carry and place anywhere.

Eremo is a lamp made with wood reclaimed from the gates of old farmhouses in the Umbrian countryside. Its light is distinguished by its strong material texture, softened by the subtlety of the luminous reflection on the wall.

Soffio’s shape is highly original and its material is unique, made of solidified fabric. It produces a soft light, and recalls the look of laundry hung out to dry in the sun, frozen in time.

This super-thin, linear #design emits light of various intensities. Muta is a pareddown floor lamp reminiscent of Etruscan “evening shadows”; a discreet presence on the borderline between being and nothingness.

Alma features a stone disc that creates a ring of light. It melds the material realm with primordial light, in a circular shape linking it to mythology, the birth of the stars, and the creation of matter resulting from a starburst amid the dark void.

Scuro is a window of light that lights up on manual contact. The light intensity is modulated by the hand of the man who decides the degree of opening, like the shutters in the windows once upon a time.

Flato is not a simple candle, but a piece of furniture with a strong material meaning, a handcrafted collection in marble and wax. Each candle is different for materials and proportions. The wax slowly wears off, while the marble, coming from the Trambisera quarry in Pietrasanta, remains as an eternal symbol of purity.

Emanuel Gargano has collaborated and still collaborates with many companies in the furniture sector, alternating between his London studio and his "laboratory" in Assisi. His work ranges from architecture to industrial #design, from contemporary art to the study of light. Each of his creations is an attempt to freeze and express a specific and rare moment, the one in which design becomes art.
