Metropolis by Casalgrande Padana: the elegance of concrete-effect porcelain stoneware

With the new Metropolis collection, #casalgrandepadana offers a new, modern slant on the austere, essential nature of concrete, creating original surfaces with a striking visual impact.

Squared and rectified, the concrete-effect porcelain stoneware tiles in the Metropolis collection come in eight shades (Almond, Graphite, Greige, Grey, Mud, Sand, Silver and White), with a natural surface and a non-slip surface for outdoors, in eight different formats (from the classic 30x60 cm and 45x90 cm, to the large 60x60 cm, 60x120 cm, 90x90 cm, 90x180 cm, 120x120 cm and 120x278 cm sizes) and in four different thicknesses (from the thin 6.5 mm to the classic 9 mm and 10 mm, as well as an extra-thick 20 mm version for laying outdoors). The collection is enriched with a series of brick-effect decorations available on all the colours in the 8.25x25 cm format.

A range of neutral, concrete-effect colours that can easily be combined with other materials such as raw wood, stone or natural fabrics for tiling the floors and walls of loft apartments or open-plan settings with a metropolitan, urban chic style or a modern, minimalist #design.

With a key role in magnificent architectural and engineering works, and traditionally known as a building element, thanks to its practical appeal and versatility, concrete has today become a #design element that can be used for tiling all kinds of surfaces, both indoors and outdoors.

This is a porcelain stoneware collection that goes beyond the modular tile concept, towards the #design of continuous, fluid spaces. Thanks to the 20 mm thickness, the Metropolis concrete-effective stoneware tiles can also be laid outdoors, both with glue on screed, guaranteeing excellent load resistance, and dry , directly on sand, gravel or grass, thus obtaining flooring that can be walked on immediately and making it possible to create interesting total-look effects.

The excellent technical performance, and the material texture that feels similar to concrete, offer designers impressive options to express their creativity, allowing for customised application solutions for various types of projects, ranging from residential buildings to large commercial surfaces.

The advantages of #casalgrandepadana porcelain stoneware

Excellent technical characteristics

Available for both traditional laying on screed with glue and for dry, interlocked layingCasalgrande Padana porcelain stoneware tiles are easy to lay and clean. This material is non-allergenic, fire-resistant, long-lasting and unalterable; at every latitude, it withstands temperature fluctuations and does not warp, always guaranteeing excellent mechanical resistance that makes it unalterable over the years.

The ideal choice for underfloor heating

Given its excellent transmittance and good heat conductivity (around 1.3 W/mK), porcelain stoneware is one of the best materials to use where underfloor heating is present , because it is better at transmitting heat by thermal conduction, further boosted by the greater uniformity of the flooring thanks to the use of large-format porcelain stoneware tiles with a thickness of just 6.5mm.

The use of large-format stoneware tiles requires full-bed adhesion (i.e. a layer of adhesive under the ceramic tile free from air bubbles), which, together with the laying process with minimal joints, not only guarantees an elegant aesthetic effect, but also allows for immediate heat transmission. Thanks to the underfloor heating system and to Bios Antibacterial® technology by Casalgrande Padana, it will be possible to experience the pleasant, relaxing sensation of walking around barefoot and letting children play on the floor even during the winter.

Maximum hygiene

Thanks to Bios Antibacterial® technology, Casalgrande Padana porcelain stoneware tiles are able to eliminate the four main bacterial strains, combat unpleasant odours and the appearance of mould, yeasts and bacteria in any type of setting; in addition, in the presence of mould, a traditionally fertile environment for the development of bacterial flora, these beneficial effects are boosted even further.

The active principle used by Bios Antibacterial® is based on silver, a noble material widely used in the production of everyday objects, whose antibacterial properties have been known since ancient times; it is non-toxic for both humans and animals and is entirely harmless for health, non-allergenic in contact with skin and does not give off substances that are harmful for the environment. Because the antibacterial treatment is permanently integrated into the ceramic product, the antibacterial performance of the tile is unaffected by wear and tear of the flooring. Lastly, the protective shield of Bios Antibacterial® is active day and night, with or without sunlight, and does not require UV rays for activation.

Bios Self-Cleaning®: the #casalgrandepadana porcelain stoneware that purifies the air

The Bios Self-Cleaning® porcelain stoneware tiles by #casalgrandepadana used to cover ventilated facades and cladding team the self-cleaning capacity with the ability to reduce NOx, among the major pollutants of the urban atmosphere. Bios Self-Cleaning® is therefore able to combine the aesthetic and performance characteristics of porcelain stoneware coverings with a drastic reduction in surface cleaning and maintenance operations, guaranteeing a significant saving in economic terms and with regard to maintaining the quality and appearance of buildings.

An effective commitment for sustainable development

Casalgrande Padana porcelain stoneware tiles are made exclusively of natural raw materials. They contain no glazes, plastic or harmful substances; obtained with a closed-cycle production process, the sophisticated anti-pollution equipment makes it possible to fully recycle and recover all the components with substantially zero emissions and dispersions: 0% harmful emissions, 100% reduction in water impact, 99.5% of waste recovered, 74% of energy self-produced and 100% eco-compatible packaging. Casalgrande Padana has also adopted an environmental management system compliant with the EMAS Regulation with a view to continually improving its environmental performance by publishing an environmental declaration validated by the certification body.
