Manolo Valdés Exhibition at Palazzo Cipolla in Rome Extended Until July 2021

This major retrospective of Spanish artist Manolo Valdés at Palazzo Cipolla in Rome, which was suspended just two weeks after it opened because of the Covid-19 health emergency, re-opened on 1 February. It will now continue until 11 July 2021. This additional long extension is possible thanks to exhibition promotor, Fondazione Terzo Pilastro Internazionale, and the kind understanding of the gallery and lenders of the works.

The brainchild of Professor Emmanuele Francesco Maria Emanuele, President of Fondazione Terzo Pilastro Internazionale, the exhibition is staged by POEMA, in partnership with the Galleria Contini of Venice; it benefits from organizational support by Comediarting and Arthemisia, and is curated by Gabriele Simongini.

I am truly delighted to welcome visitors to Palazzo Cipolla until next summer, under the most scrupulous personal safety conditions. The extension gives #people a chance to discover, appreciate or return to see an artist as extraordinary as Valdés. It also offers space for the beauty of art to help us as we resume our lives emotionally, says Prof. Emanuele. Valdés draws his inspiration from the most famous masterpieces in art history, reinterpreting them in a very topical way. As well as his visual language of undoubted impact, his attentiveness to materials and a predilection for large-scale works, what I particularly appreciate in his work is his aptitude for drawing transparently and naturally from the artistic canons of the past, restoring them to us today, in a contemporary way, something that confirms my conviction that art is an uninterrupted flow, a constant dialogue between the greats of yesterday and of today.

The exhibition brings Valdés back to Rome after a 25-year absence. It displays some seventy works paintings and sculptures in wood, marble, bronze, alabaster, brass, steel, and iron, some of which of imposing dimensions from the artists studio and leading private collections, showcasing Valdéscreative path from the early Eighties (shortly after finishing with Equipo Crónica) to the present day.

In compliance with currently-applicable regulations, the Palazzo Cipolla exhibition venue is open Mondays to Fridays, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., last admissions, 7 p.m.; it is closed on Saturdays and Sundays. For organizational reasons, the exhibition will be closed all day on Monday 1 March.
