Biennale College 2021
Biennale College is La Biennale di Venezia's project dedicated to the training of the young in the artistic fields and in the activities of the organizational structure of La Biennale.
Encouraging young talents, offering them the opportunity to work side by side with the Masters to develop creations that will be part of our Artistic Programs: this is the spirit of the Biennale College, a well-fitted bridge that allows young people who wish to engage in one of the arts to do so under the finest conditions that an international institution can offer.
University students can improve their university education through the internship experience of the Biennale College Internships.
For 2021, the Biennale College has already launched new calls for applications in Theatre, Music, Historical Archives, and Internships. The new calls for Dance will be announced in January 2021.
The Theatre Department promotes 3 calls for applications: two are aimed at Italian Under 35 directors and Italian Under 40 authors. The third call is aimed at international performers (both Italian and from abroad) presenting their own site-specific performance which must have never premiered either in study form or complete form.
Applications for the site-specific performance call must be sent no later than 20 February 2021.
The Music Department promotes 3 calls for applications aimed at composers and performers:
Composers for vocal ensemble: the workshop is dedicated to young composers interested in writing for a cappella vocal ensemble (max. 5 voices). Proposals can include live electronics, amplification or tape production. The selected composers will have the opportunity to write a new vocal work (15 minutes max.)
Composers working at sound installations: the workshop is dedicated to young composers interested in site-specific sound installations. The selected composers will have the opportunity to create a new site-specific sound installation.
Performers and Experimental Performance: the workshop is open to young experimental performers, DJs, turntablists, controllerists and live electronics performers interested in experimenting with pre-recorded voice. The selected performers will have the opportunity to realize an experimental performance.
A further fourth call for applications is reserved to Italian vocal ensembles.
Applications for the three international calls must be sent no later than 18 February 2021.
The project is reserved for Italian graduates under 30 years of age. They will be involved in a research project in the areas of Dance, Music, Theatre, and Cinema, curated by four tutors. Preparatory research work will be carried out at the Historical Archives of the Biennale. The essays in their final form will be published by La #biennaledivenezia.
The new call for the Biennale College Internships for the period February-June 2021 is now online.
A learning experience on the field, organized as a curriculum-required internship for undergraduate or graduate students who wish to enrich their training in the fields of organization, management, administration, technical support, editorial work, communication, in other words, the work that is done every day within the organizational structure of La #biennaledivenezia.
Just like a "College" experience, the young people selected for the internship will be supervised individually in their training, stimulated and encouraged to seek the greatest benefit from the moment they arrive to the last day of their internship, which will also include social events designed to share experiences and create an active community.
The call for applications is reserved for under 30 university students enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate programme of a University based in Italy.
