BMW Team Italia crowned GT4 champion – Walkenhorst Motorsport prepares for the final endurance highlight of the year.

Week after week, BMW teams and drivers around the world do battle for points, victories and titles. Away from the track too, members of the large BMW Motorsport family around the world are also creating headlines. The “BMW Motorsport News” allows us to regularly summarise all the action for you in a compact and informative manner. This way, you are always up to speed. 

Italian GT: GT4 title win for BMW Team Italia.
The big winners of the season finale of the Italian GT Sprint Championship in Vallelunga (ITA) are Francesco Guerra and Simone Riccitelli (both ITA). The BMW Team Italia duo won the final race of the season in their BMW M4 GT4 and this victory saw them move up into first place in the GT4 Pro Am standings. Guerra and Riccitelli started the race in second place in the overall rankings, but were able to turn the tables in the final spurt and celebrate winning the title. In the GT3 category, Marius Zug (GER) and Stefano Comandini (ITA) in the BMW M6 GT3 finished on the podium in third place in the first of the two sprint races in Vallelunga. They finished 13th in the second race. In the overall rankings for GT3, Zug and Comandini are in sixth place.

IGTC: Walkenhorst Motorsport with strong line-up in Kyalami.
The final endurance highlight of the year is on the calendar for this Saturday (12th December) in South Africa. The ‘Kyalami 9 Hour’ marks the end of the 2020 season in the Intercontinental GT Challenge (IGTC). Walkenhorst Motorsport will contest the race with two BMW M6 GT3 and a strong driver line-up. Augusto Farfus (BRA), Nick Catsburg (NED) and Sheldon van der Linde (RSA) will take it in turns at the wheel of the #34 car. In the BMW M6 GT3 with car number 35, the BMW works drivers Nick Yelloly (GBR) and Martin Tomczyk (GER) will compete alongside David Pittard (GBR). After the ‘Bathurst 12 Hour’ (AUS), the ‘Indianapolis 8 Hour’ and the 24-hour race at Spa-Francorchamps (BEL), Kyalami is the fourth and final event of the 2020 IGTC season. The race gets underway at 12.00 p.m. local time on Saturday.
