MV Agusta Reparto Corse – De Rosa third at Estoril!

The eighth and final round of the Supersport world championship played out in cool and sunny conditions at the #estoril circuit in Portugal.
Saturday's results failed to meet with the expectations of MV Agusta Reparto Corse. Having qualified in fourth position, #raffaelederosa looked likely to be a frontrunner in the weekend's first race. But unfortunately his hopes were dashed already at turn two, when contact with another rider caused De Rosa to crash, which brought his race to a premature end. #federicofuligni ran a solid race, reaching the points zone and crossing the line in thirteenth place.
Today's race took place in the early afternoon and, like yesterday, Raffaele lined up on the second row of the grid, Federico the sixth.
De Rosa made a strong start, moving into third position right behind the race leaders. At the start of lap seven, the MV Agusta Reparto Corse rider took the lead, in a group comprising ten riders who continuously exchanged positions. The race continued in a similar vein, the outcome uncertain until the very end. On the last lap Raffaele made a final push in what was a fight to the line, the MV Agusta Reparto Corse rider finishing third, just two thousandths of a second from the second placed rider.
A great race for De Rosa who no doubt deserved some better luck.
It was a complicated race for Fuligni, who was penalised by his grid position. Federico was unable to find the right rhythm and, despite working hard to move up the field, he crossed the line in seventeenth place.
In the final WorldSS championship standings, De Rosa finishes sixth with 135 points, while Fuligni is eighteenth with 32.

Race 15: 1) Mahias (Kawasaki) – 2) Locatelli (Yamaha) – 3) De Rosa (MV Agusta) – 4) Odendaal (Yamaha) - 5) Oettl (Kawasaki) ........... 17) Fuligni (MV Agusta)

Raffaele De Rosa: "The team deserved the win today and not just a podium, and I've very sorry about that. The bike worked really well and we were fast through every sector. After yesterday's crash, I was a little demoralised, because every time we've been in line for a good result, something has gone wrong. We've been unlucky. Today I couldn't make a mistake, and tried everything to win, but in the end we have to settle for third place, less than a second from the winner. This was the final race of the season and so I must absolutely thank Andrea Quadranti, Paolo Piazza, the whole team, MV Agusta, my family and all my sponsors."

Federico Fuligni: "Today I struggled more than I did in yesterday's race. Through the first lap I started to recover, but then the bike started to slide a lot at the rear. This caused me to lose some places, but above all prevented me from establishing a good enough pace to reach the points zone. I would have liked to round out the year with a better result but, also as a way of thanking my team for all their hard work this season."
