WITH THE NEW ROADTEC 01 SE METZELER UNVEILS THE SPORTY SIDE OF TOURISM
The latest addition to the METZELER brand in the sport touring sector consolidates the strengths of the award-winning ROADTEC™ 01 and offers a solution with excellent grip on both dry and wet surfaces, top handling and mileage.
Munich (Germany) - Building on the success of the award-winning ROADTEC™ 01 in the sport touring tyre segment, METZELER brand introduces the new ROADTEC™ 01 SE, immediately obtaining important awards, such as the victory in the sports touring tyre comparison organised by the English magazine RiDE.
ROADTEC™ 01 SE completes the METZELER offer by consolidating the strengths of ROADTEC™ 01 - its exceptional wet performance and mileage - to enhance the sporty characteristics in terms of grip and agility required by supersport, naked and sport touring riders.
ROADTEC™ 01 SE is the ideal choice for motorcyclists who own naked and sport touring motorcycles mainly used for short to medium trips outside the city, alone or with a passenger, and who are looking for a good compromise between sport performance, handling and mileage.
At the same time, motorcyclists who use their motorcycle mainly for urban day trips, with the occasional trip out of town on the weekend, can appreciate the performance and the level of safety that ROADTEC 01™ SE can offer on different types of asphalt and weather conditions.
In order to respond to a need for sportiness that implies performance even at high lean angles, the tread design of ROADTEC™ 01 SE evolves from that of ROADTEC™ 01 in the direction of a more slick shoulder, to maximise grip levels thanks to a greater area of contact with the asphalt. The compounds used, Full Silica at the front and dual compound at the rear, guarantee high performance even at low temperatures and exceptional grip on low friction surfaces.
The ROADTEC™ 01 SE range consists of one front and four rear sizes and complements the larger one of ROADTEC™ 01. While ROADTEC™ 01 SE includes sizes dedicated to naked bikes and sport tourers, who prefer a product with sporty performance, ROADTEC™ 01 maintains the same measurements in the HWM (Heavy Weight Motorcycle) version.
ROADTEC™ 01 and ROADTEC™ 01 SE: two products that will satisfy any traveller with a sporty soul.
Features and benefits of ROADTEC™ 01 SE
The main features are:
- The innovative rear carcass in rayon improves the tyre’s adaptability, increases the size of the contact area and ensures greater versatility of use.
- Safety feeling on wet and low friction surfaces, Thanks to the significant chemical grip provided by the Full Silica compound used in both the front and rear tyre. In addition, the tread pattern of the front is made up of transversal grooves that increase the mechanical grip on wet or uneven asphalt, for a greater safety feeling.
- High level of grip even at maximum lean angles. The sporty evolution of the appreciated ROADTEC™ 01 tread pattern is a slicker tyre shoulder that significantly reduces the void-fill ratio of the footprint at maximum lean angles and guarantees an abundant level of grip, even for motorcyclists with a sportier riding style.
THE TYRE IN DETAILS
The tread pattern
ROADTEC™ 01 SE tread pattern has as its starting point that of the award-winning ROADTEC™ 01 and evolves it in the direction of a product with higher sport performances.
The front tyre design features a high number of transversal grooves that increase the mechanical grip on low friction surfaces and guarantee a in bad weather conditions, thanks to an effective water evacuation system. The slick area on the shoulder, wider than that of ROADTEC™ 01, manages to maximise the footprint of this part of the tyre involved at higher lean angles and ensures an excellent level of grip even for the most demanding motorcyclists.
The design of the rear tyre of ROADTEC™ 01 SE combines grooves of different sizes and depths to improve several performance aspects such as grip on low friction surfaces and stability at high speeds.
The distribution of the grooves is therefore strategically positioned on the tyre: the central part of the tyre has a void-fill ratio of about 18%, while starting from twenty-five degrees of lean angle it progressively reduce to 10%, until the slick area near the end of the shoulder.
The compound
ROADTEC 01™ SE inherits the latest evolution of the compound present in ROADTEC 01™ to maintain the high wet performance that has made it a reference in the segment over the years.
The front tyre is entirely composed of a Full Silica compound and was developed with the aim of ensuring a significant feeling of safety when braking, especially on wet and low-friction surfaces.
For the rear tyre, METZELER engineers have chosen to use two different compounds using the Cap & Base scheme. This system consists of layering the two side bands in Full Silica compound, which ensure abundant grip when cornering from low temperatures, on top of a harder compound which guarantees thermal balance in case of a spirited pace. The latter compound also constitutes the central band of the tire for about 20% of the entire section and was developed to further improve mileage performance.
The structure
In addition to the tread design and compounds, the structure of the ROADTEC™ 01 SE has also been designed to enhance the sporty characteristics of the product while maintaining the qualities of wet performance and mileage required by a sport touring tyre. In particular, the rear tyre has an innovative rayon carcass with a zero-degree steel belt, which allows a more conformable footprint to increase the level of agility and grip on asphalt, while at the same time retaining the support and rigidity needed for example in touring applications.
The 180/55 ZR 17 M/C (73W) size has a two-ply structure, adapting from light naked and supersports motorcycles to heavier sport tourers.
The range
The designated ROADTEC™ 01 SE range complements the more extensive ROADTEC™ 01 range and replaces it in the sizes dedicated to naked bikes and sport tourers that require a sport touring product with a sportier performance. The ROADTEC™ 01 range, on the other hand, offers the HWM (Heavy Weight Motorcycle) version for the same sizes, which is designed for generally heavier touring motorcycles. Conventional and adventure motorcycle sizes also remain in the ROADTEC™ 01 range.
