Bosch Motorsport is exclusive hybrid powertrain supplier for the new LMDh category

  • Exclusive supplier for e-machine and additional components
  • Bosch Motorsport awarded system integration responsibility

ACO and IMSA have jointly created a new common vehicle platform which will compete in both WEC and IMSA race category. For this groundbreaking project, Bosch Motorsport has been nominated as the exclusive supplier for several high-technology components within the vehicle and the system integration thereof. From the e-machine, inverter, and vehicle control unit to the brake by wire system and other peripheral electronics, Bosch supplies key e-mobility hardware for the LMDh program.

Additionally, Bosch provides an intelligent hybrid-power management software which controls the distribution of torque between the ICE, e-machine, and brake by wire system based on the driver demand.

The new series allows hybrid racecars to compete in both the IMSA and WEC endurance race series with the novelty that teams can compete in a motorsport hybrid class across multiple series under the same technical regulations. In the future, Bosch Motorsport will work closely with the two partners, Williams Advanced Engineering and Xtrac, who are responsible for the battery management system and the gearbox.

"With the hybrid system and our components, we are making an important contribution to the new racing category. We are particularly proud that ACO and IMSA trust us with the responsibility of system integration in the future. For us, this is the next step in demonstrating our many years of expertise and competence in motorsport, both with our technology and with our system engineering expertise for a perfect interaction of all components", says Dr. Klaus Böttcher, Vice President Bosch Motorsport.
