New Citroen boosts Projekt E in Riga

The addition of a new #citroenc3erx with support from Citroen #racing and two drivers who raced in the FIA World Rallycross Championship in 2019 will boost the #projekte field in the second round of the new series for all-electric racecars.

The first #projekte event took place at Holjes in Sweden in July and resulted in a landmark event win for American driver Ken Block who won the final in his Hoonigan #racing Ford Fiesta ERX ahead of the similar cars of Austrian Hermann Neubauer and Briton Natalie Barratt.

The new Citroen C3 ERX developed by STARD with backing from Citroen #racing joins the grid for round two and will be driven by Frenchman #cyrilraymond. Champion in the RX2 category in 2016 and 2017, Raymond progressed through the FIA European Rallycross Championship where he was an event winner in 2018 to race in the FIA World Rallycross Championship in 2019.

He will be joined on the grid for World Rallycross of Riga-Latvia by local star #janisbaumanis. A former FIA European Rallycross champion, Baumanis has raced in the World Championship since 2016 but had his 2020 plans derailed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Baumanis has previously tested a #projekte car but his home event will be the first time he has raced one and will provide the platform to introduce FinTech company Ferratum to electric motor sport as the backer of the Ford Fiesta ERX he will race.

Projekt E is the first FIA-approved International Series for production-based, all-electric racecars. All cars in the series use the REVelution electric powertrain developed by STARD. This features three electric motors, two on the rear axle and one on the front, and has an output of 450kW with 1002Nm of torque. The concept of the series remains true to the traditional spirit of rallycross technical regulations by allowing teams to build their own chassis based on almost any make of car.

QUOTES

Cyril Raymond
"I'm delighted to join the #projekte grid, especially at the wheel of a French car. I've made my reputation in single-specification categories, being double RX2 Champion, and I really believe that the #projekte format suits my style completely. I'm convinced that electric rallycross will not only provide me with the opportunities I need to carry on in this sport, but will allow drivers to make a career out of #racing in this discipline, which is perfectly suited to demonstrating the incredible capabilities of electric technology.
"Citroen has an amazing history in global motor sport and it's an honour to give the new #citroenc3erx its first competitive outing. I'd like to thank Citroen #racing and STARD for the trust they're putting in me to drive the car, and I will put in maximum effort to do my best in #Riga."

Janis Baumanis
"I'm really grateful to STARD and Ferratum for trusting me to race the electric car in #Riga. I know that STARD has developed the car a lot since I drove the prototype a year ago and I can't wait to get into the car and try it again. Obviously it's a bit sad that I was not able to race in the World Championship this year but I think everyone understands that the situation that's happening in the world right now and that it's not always possible to follow your plans.

Jorma Jokela, CEO and founder of Ferratum
"I feel that World RX #racing is a great match with important values that are part of Ferratum's DNA. It reflects much of our current FinTech transformation into a fully digital modern bank, providing our customers with financial advice and a variety of tailored financial solutions in real time. Commitment to a sustainable future is part of our Nordic FinTech roots, so we are very proud to drive that innovation with #janisbaumanis and STARD also at World RX events with the electric car."

Michael Sakowicz, STARD CEO and founder
"With #janisbaumanis and #cyrilraymond, two famous, high level FIA World Rallycross Championship drivers are joining #projekte in #Riga. We expect to deliver some great #racing to the fans. #projekte has proven to be attractive to a huge range of driver profiles, from privateers and semi-professional racers up to World RX drivers and even international superstars. This is the place to be for customer #racing in electric motor sport"

PROJEKT E
Projekt E is the official support series for the FIA World Rallycross Championship and is for all-electric racecars based on production cars and using the REVelution powertrain developed and supplied by STARD.
In 2020 #projekte will take place at four events in Sweden, Latvia, Belgium and Germany.
