Bad luck across the board for DS TECHEETAH in Round 10

Season 6 Teams’ and Drivers’ Champions DS TECHEETAH’s winning streak came to an end today at the Tempelhof Airport at the 10th round of the ABB FIA Formula E championship.

After starting at the back of the grid after failing to qualify within the set time, both drivers worked their way up the field only to finish in the back after Jean-Éric Vergne picked up a drive through penalty and #antoniofelixdacosta had a car failure.

Mark Preston, DS TECHEETAH Team Principal:

“This clearly wasn’t the day for us, but every day can be on the top step of the podium. This is Formula E, this is how it works. We took a big gamble in qualifying today and even though it didn’t pan out as planned, it was the right decision to at least try. That’s part of wining, trying to extract every single bit of performance, sometimes you succeed, sometimes you don’t. We still have a good chance to secure the second place for Jean-Éric tomorrow”

Xavier Mestelan Pinon, DS Performance Director:

“We are champions, but we are neither invincible nor immortal! This result reminds us that we must not lower our guard down and that is a good thing to approach the next season with a knife between our teeth. Until then, we will try to set the record straight for the last race tomorrow and get the second position in the driver’s championship for Jean-Éric.”

Jean-Éric Vergne, P18:

“The race was going fine today. I had a good amount of energy and was starting to make my way up the field. Sadly, we had a drive through penalty for over cooling the battery on the grid which made it race over for me. Nevertheless, we continued the race to gather some data and now we re-set for tomorrow.”

Antonio Felix Da Costa, DNF:

“Some days things are not going your way and today was one of them. But to be honest, it’s okay because I have so much to be grateful for and you can’t always be at the front. I had good fun #racing from the back today and made it up to P11 and were set to finish there or P10 until we came to the final lap and my car shutdown. We still don’t know how it happened; I’m sitting with my engineers to figure it out as we speak.”
