The Hilma af Klint exhibition at Moderna Museet Malmö is extended to February 21, 2021

The #hilmaafklint exhibition at #modernamuseet #Malmö is extended

After waiting through a shutdown period of more than two months, #hilmaafklint – Artist, Researcher, Medium was finally able to open on June 16. As part of the museum’s strategy to help prevent the spread of the Coronavirus, the number of visitors allowed in the galleries is still being limited. In light of the immense public interest in seeing Hilma af Klint’s work, and in order to give more #people a chance to visit the exhibition, the show is being extended until February 21, 2021.

Hilma af Klint – Artist, Researcher, Medium was supposed to have opened on April 4 of this year. But because of the Coronavirus pandemic, the museum was forced to close down on March 19. For more than two months, the art hung on the walls of the museum's galleries that were completely empty of visitors.

When #modernamuseet #Malmö was finally able to open again on June 16, the exhibition met with rave reviews and widespread public interest in seeing the show. Because Sweden is still under orders that restrict travel and public gatherings, the number of visitors allowed in the museum at one time is limited.

“In effect, this means that far fewer #people can experience this comprehensive exhibition than if we had been open as usual,” says Iris Müller-Westermann. “As curator and museum director, this is extremely disappointing because I know how much interest there is in seeing the exhibition and experiencing Hilma af Klint’s work in person.”

Now #modernamuseet #Malmö is happy to be able to announce that the exhibition is being extended and will be on view until February 21, 2021.

“I hope that this extended exhibition period will give our visitors plenty of time to plan a visit at their leisure, and even a chance to come back again,” says Müller-Westermann. “Hopefully even international visitors will eventually be able to experience this exceptional presentation. The exhibition is only going to be on view at #modernamuseet #Malmö and won’t be traveling to other places after that. This is really a unique opportunity,” says Müller-Westermann.

The extension of #hilmaafklint – Artist, Researcher, Medium means that future exhibitions will be rescheduled accordingly. Zvi Goldstein will be on view from March 27 through August 29, 2021. Also opening on March 27 is a presentation of works from #modernamuseet Collection.

The exhibition is curated by Iris Müller-Westermann and Milena Høgsberg, and is supported by The Barbro Osher Pro Suecia Foundation. The film series "2 Minutes about Hilma af Klint" is supported by Veronica & Lars Bane Foundation.

Hilma af Klint – Artist, Researcher, Medium will be on view at #modernamuseet #Malmö until February 21, 2021. The exhibition will not be traveling on after it closes.

In accordance with recommendations from the Swedish Public Health Agency, we are ensuring that there aren’t too many visitors inside the museum at one time. One way for us to do this is to require visitors to purchase tickets in advance.

Advance purchase tickets are required for admission to the museum—even for children and other groups for whom admission is free. No one will be allowed to visit the museum without an advance purchase ticket.
