First day of SBK practice at Portimao

There were cloudy skies and high temperatures at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in #portimao, Portugal as the third round of the Superbike world championship got underway today. Like the last round at #jerez, this event is also taking place behind closed doors, with access reserved to teams and paddock staff in accordance with anti-virus protocols.
In Spain, #kawasakipuccettiracing rider Xavi Fores had a few problems adapting to his Kawasaki ZX-10R and used the practices and races to try and resolve these together with his team.
This morning saw Fores take to the track for the first practice session and, with a time of 1’44”487, he closed in eighteenth position.
The afternoon session took place in decidedly higher temperatures compared to the morning. Despite the more difficult conditions, Xavi was able to improve on his earlier lap time (1’43”890) and finish sixteenth in the day’s combined standings.
Tomorrow morning Fores will take part in the third and final free practice, Superpole and, in the afternoon, the first of the weekend’s three races.

Superbike world championship
Combined free practice results: 1) Baz (Yamaha) – 2) Razgatlioglu (Yamaha) – 3) Rea (Kawasaki) – 4) Rinaldi (Ducati) – 5) Redding (Ducati) ………16) Fores (Kawasaki).

“The afternoon session went better than that of the morning. As was the case at #jerez, I have to work hard in the first of the weekend’s sessions to adapt my riding style to the bike, looking for a setup that allows me to ride smoothly. In the second session, I got on better, but I’m struggling to exploit the fresh tyres. We have to work on the chassis and electronics to resolve this problem, but the situation is better than it was at #jerez. I want to thank the team for all their help today.”
