Andrea Locatelli catch-all, pole position and win in Race 1 on the Saturday of Jerez

The weekend in #jerez de la Frontera continues in full swing for the BARDAHL Evan Bros. WorldSSP Team, which after completing its program for today can already exhibit a victory trophy on the trophy case. The 2020 format of the World Supersport Championship in fact provides a Race 1 on Saturday and a Race 2 on Sunday, and #andrealocatelli did not miss the opportunity to take his second victory in two races.

The day opened with the third and final free practice session, which Locatelli and the reigning world champion team used to work on the bike's set-up in anticipation of the race, finishing in third position just a few tenths from the top. At 11.40 a.m. the Superpole started as scheduled, valid for the starting grid of both races of the weekend, which crowned #andrealocatelli poleman of #jerez. The rider from Bergamo set the best time three times in a row during the session, setting an excellent time of 1'42"214, almost six tenths better than the second fastest.

In the early Andalusian afternoon (15.15) it was the turn of Race 1, which Locatelli masterfully managed. After taking advantage of the start from pole to take the first place, Andrea was attacked by Cluzel to move into second, before regain the lead with a precise overtaking move at turn six on lap five. Once back in the lead Locatelli unleashed his quick race pace, which allowed him to gain on his pursuers and cross the line alone. A victory that pairs it with the one he achieved at Phillip Island, and reinforces his first position in the championship with a full score.

A success that has rightly gained the enthusiasm within the team, always protagonist of an effective work on Locatelli's YZF-R6, but that doesn't end the weekend. Tomorrow it will be the turn of Race 2, scheduled for 12.30 and live on Skysport MotoGP, which will be brought forward by the classic morning warm up session (09.25).

Andrea Locatelli: "What a day! It was challenging to do the Superpole and a race on the same day, as it was the first time for us, but we worked really well and got the result we wanted. The conditions were extreme, which makes the win even sweeter. Now we want to study the data from this race in the best possible way, to try to replicate today's excellent performance. I really want to thank the team for the great work they did also today".
