How to take great photos this summer

Summer is a time you need to take extra care to get the photographs you're after. Be ready for wherever a summer's day takes you with this 5-step guide to quality #polaroid photographs you can treasure forever.

1. Get your film ready

Polaroid film is best stored in the fridge to keep the film chemistry stable. When you’re ready to use it, take it out of the fridge and let it sit for an hour or so to adjust to room temperature.

2. Travel smart

Polaroid photos develop best between 13-28 °C (55-82 °F), so try to keep your film out of the heat until you're ready to shoot. You could even pop it in a cooler bag with a few ice packs inside. If you're flying, keep it away from the X-ray machine and ask for a hand-check instead. And if you need something to carry your camera and film, check out our new range of camera bags.

3. Befriend the light

Make the most of the "golden hour": the time after sunrise and before sunset. This is when the sun casts a golden glow over your subjects to give you photos full of color and contrast. If you're more of a midday-riser, make sure the sun is behind you when you're taking a photo.

4. Shield it, don't shake it

Ater you've taken your photo, protect it from the sun and the heat. Let it sit under the film shield for a few seconds before placing it face down in the shade or in an empty film pack. Make sure it stays cool too to preserve all the detail and contrast.

5. Protect your moments

For the first 30 days, keep your photos out and away from direct sunlight to let the chemistry dry. After that, you can store them away in a photo album or display them in a photo stand.
