In the work of #charbeljosephhboutros (b. 1981, Bikfaya, Lebanon), invisibility is charged with intimate, geographical and historical layers, finding poetic lines that extend beyond the realm of existing speculations and realities. Being born in the midst of the Lebanese war, his art is not engaged in an explicit political and historical reflection, but is more accurately haunted by the said political and historical reflection. Charbel-joseph H. Boutros’ work 'Dead Drawing' – a sober pencil lead resting on two nails in a wall, above it two lines drawn with the same lead – has already been shown in S.M.A.K. as part of the retrospective exhibition ‘The Collection (1) | Highlights for a Future’. This exhibition is his first solo project in a Belgian museum.
