PHOTOLUX FESTIVAL Edition 2019. MONDI | NEW WORLDS

Over 20 exhibitions spread across six locations in the heart of the Tuscan city, for one of the most interesting photography events on the European scene.

Among the most awaited exhibitions, the one that celebrates the 50th anniversary of the first man on the Moon, the Gossan: Mars Mission project by Joan Fontcuberta and the anthological exhibition of Romano Cagnoni one year after his passing.

Great photography is on the launching pad!

The countdown for the new edition of #photoluxfestival - #lucca International Biennial of Photography has commenced. Just over two months to go before the opening of one of the most interesting and awaited events on the European scene, dedicated entirely to photography.

The #event, directed by Enrico Stefanelli, scheduled from November 16th to December 8th 2019, offers a rich program that revolves around the theme Mondi | New Worlds, with over 20 exhibitions in six locations in the city center plus conferences, workshops, portfolio reviews, meetings with the greatest names of international photography.

"In a year in which pivotal events in history come to their anniversary - says Enrico Stefanelli, director of the #lucca International Biennial of Photography - we wanted to turn our gaze, through photographic narration, to some of the highlights of the twentieth century. Narrated either in the present or past tense, we have collected stories that tell of conquests, revolutions, journeys that have led beyond the walls. From the conquest of the moon, to the fall of the wall that divided Berlin into two cities, from the Iranian revolution and the Tiananmen massacre, to Lenin's Russia ".

"Mondi | New Worlds - continues Enrico Stefanelli – represents the impetuous will to change the past, building in the present a new world to deliver to the future: the story of events that have forever changed the course of history, in the will and in the hope to make the world a better place ”.

The exhibition itinerary ideally starts from Palazzo delle Esposizioni of the Fondazione Banca del Monte di #lucca, with the group exhibition entitled 2:56 AM. To the Moon and Back (edited by Enrico Stefanelli, Chiara Ruberti, Naima Savioli, Alessia Locatelli, Chiara Dall'Olio, Alessandro Romanini and Andrea Pacifici; sponsored by the Ministry of Culture | Asgardia) which celebrates the 50th anniversary of the first man on the moon through a selection of images from the NASA archive and works by authors such as Antonio Biasiucci, Vincent Fournier, Alberto Giuliani, Jorge Peréz Higuera, Kaja Rata, Edoardo Romagnoli, Penelope Umbrico, Francesco Zizola and others, as well as video and sound installations, objects and sculptures, which shows the different approacheswhich photography (contemporary and historical), visual and plastic arts, cinema, comics and music have chosen to look at the Space and more specifically at the Moon.

The visitor is led on an experiential and didactic journey through the imaginary of one of the conquests that have most left a sign on humanity. The exhibition offers an opportunity to re-read the history of man, made up of challenges, individual and collective efforts that have changed its course: small and large revolutions that have tear down walls and built new Worlds.

All the initiatives of #photoluxfestival 2019 have a common distinguishing element: the will to document the human desire to go beyond their limits, through a program that ranges from space exploration and the discovery of new planets, to an in-depth analysis of social and political revolutions of the twentieth century, in particular in these last fifty years - from Iran to China, from Eastern Europe to Cuba -, events that, overcoming boundaries and conventions, have given back to history a different world.
