Fifth for Caricasulo and seventh for Krummenacher in the WorldSS race at San Juan

The #bardahl #evanbros. team has concluded the penultimate round of the Supersport world championship at the San Juan Villicum circuit in #argentina. The two riders competing for Fabio Evangelista’s team, #randykrummenacher and #federicocaricasulo, came to this event lying first and second in the championship standings, only separated by 10 points.

The track conditions, terrible until yesterday, were much improved today meaning that the eleventh race of the season could run without any particular problems for riders.
In yesterday’s Superpole, #randykrummenacher qualified sixth while #federicocaricasulo classified eighth. As a result, the Swiss rider lined up on the second row of the grid and the Italian on the third for the race that took place in cool and fairly cloudy conditions.

Both made a good start when the light went out, and by the end of lap one Caricasulo was lying fifth, followed closely by Krummenacher. On lap six, Federico moved up to third while Randy was fifth. The two #bardahl #evanbros. riders battled as part of the leading group with one eye on the race and the other on the championship. At the end of lap twelve, the Italian was lying second, the Swiss rider fourth, but first Caricasulo made a mistake that saw him drop back to fifth and then two laps from the end Krummenacher lost ground, falling back to seventh which was to be his final result, while Caricasulo finished in fifth position.

With just one race left to run this season, Krummenacher retains the championship lead with 202 points, followed by Caricasulo with 194. Cluzel is third, 14 points behind the Italian and 22 from the Swiss rider.
The final round of the Supersport world championship will take place over the weekend of 24-26 October at the Losail circuit in Qatar.

San Juan Villicum circuit - #argentina – Supersport world championship
Race: 1) Cluzel (Yamaha) – 2) Mahias (Kawasaki) – 3) Vinales (Yamaha) – 4) Perolari (Yamaha) – 5)

Caricasulo (Yamaha) – 6) De Rosa (MV Agusta) – 7) Krummenacher (Yamaha)

Randy Krummenacher: “It was a really difficult race for me. I gave it my all, from the first to the last lap, as did the team, who have worked tirelessly all weekend. The set-up of our bike was almost perfect, but we were lacking something in terms of engine performance, and I was unable to even stay in the slipstream of the others. At this track, with the two long straights, it’s impossible to run up front without the engine. In the end, I finished seventh, I’m still leading the championship with an eight-point lead and the next race is in Qatar at a track I really like. For the final race, at another circuit with a very long straight, I hope we can count on a more high- performance engine, in order to fight for the world title”.

Federico Caricasulo: “It’s been a complicated day, with highs and lows. I started well and seven laps from the end I was in second, but then a drop in tyre performance, a few mistakes and contact with other riders saw me finish fifth. A result I’m not happy with considering how the race went, but it means I’m now two points closer to Randy and am still in the mix for the title, which we’ll be fighting for at the final Losail round”.
