Mercedes-Benz at the Agritechnica 2019: Unimog in agriculture: for implement operation and transport

Professional use of equipment and efficient transport

  • Advantages for contractors in municipal and agricultural sectors with Unimog
  • High degree of efficiency thanks to year-round utilisation and low operating costs
  • Unimog now with safety cab (roll bar), also meets European requirements for registration as a tractor
  • The exhibits: two Unimog U 530 and one Unimog U 218 (Stand H21/G25)

Contractors with their own range of vehicles and machinery play, alongside the traditional farmer, an important role in agriculture. The presence of Mercedes-Benz at the trade fair will also be of interest to those service providers who additionally work in the municipal sector, for example in the maintenance of green areas and winter service work – both have always been the domain of the Unimog implement carrier. Municipal technology has long been given its own spotlight at the #agritechnica, with many vehicle and equipment requirements imitating those in agriculture, the municipal sector and transport.

Agritechnica is the largest fair for agricultural technology in the world and will be opening it doors in Hanover, Germany from 10 – 16 November.

Effective in the fields, efficient on the roads

The Unimog from Mercedes-Benz is perfectly suited to this environment of highly specialised agricultural working practices. Facilitating a versatile selection of highly professional equipment, operation is based on the economical and environmentally friendly drive technology for vehicle and implements. The Mercedes-Benz stand (G 25 in Hall 21) will thus be focusing on enabling effective operations in the field and maximum efficiency on the roads.

Efficient Unimog implement carrier also for agricultural purposes

High levels of vehicle utilisation for gritting icy roads in winter, cleaning work, as well as tree and brush control in the spring and autumn – this is often the everyday practice of many contractors who are mainly active in the agricultural sector. These are the people who value the key strength of the Unimog, namely its unrestricted use all-year round. Four attachment areas are provided for a variety of equipment – not only at the front and back of the vehicle, but it is also possible to mount attachments between the axles and on the chassis.

This is complemented by the good transport characteristics of the Unimog, its high gross combination weight of up to 40 tonnes and its unrestricted qualification for motorway use thanks to a maximum speed of 89 km/h. With two dual-axle agricultural trailers, the Unimog can optimally utilise the maximum permitted transport length of 18 metres. Vehicles registered as a tractor unit/agricultural tractor or as an implement carrier used to transport agricultural goods or for work are exempt from Germany's compulsory #truck toll. Depending on how it is used, this also applies to the Unimog, as does the Sunday driving ban on motorways. Thanks to the safety cab with roll bar, the Unimog now also meets European requirements for registration as a tractor.

Top performance from hydraulics and tyre pressure control system

The Unimog hydraulic system works to meet individual requirements with a load-sensing system, supplying the implements with the right amount of energy at just the right time. Thanks to a special valve block, this hydraulic system is also compatible with attachments that require the more traditional supply of constant current, such as the many municipal implements, for example.

The integrated “tirecontrol plus” tyre pressure control system is a practical feature. The appropriate tyre pressure is adjusted to the respective operation at the touch of a button, with the option to choose between “Road”, “Sand” and “Rough” mode. A technology tailored to agricultural requirements that involves frequent changes between loose and hard ground with, when necessary, the lowest possible ground pressure. The portal axles that allow for large ground clearance also contribute toward the good driving characteristics of the Unimog. Those using the vehicle for agricultural purposes benefit from this when out in the field as the vehicle maintains sufficient distance from the swath – the rows of mown grass – or the crops.
