Tim Gajser wins both races in MXGP class. Antonio
Cairoli, as runner-up, still leads the championship. Jorge Prado dominates MX2 and
takes the red plate
Agueda (Portugal), 20 May 2019 – There was perfect weather in
Agueda for the
Grand Prix of Portugal and the sixth round of the
2019 FIM Motocross World Championship. The hard, rough and extremely slippery soil of the spectacular Portuguese track allowed the versatility of the
SCORPION™ MX range to shine with the numerous
Pirelli-equipped riders able to choose between the
SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid Soft,
front and rear, or combine with the SCORPION™ MX Soft rear. The peculiarity of the circuit allowed the riders to appreciate the entire
SCORPION™ MX range and ensured the highest level of competitiveness. The consistency in performance permitted the fastest laps of the motos to be set in the closing stages of the races.
Tim Gajser, who opted for the
SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid Soft, enjoyed two perfect heats in the
MXGP class and won the overall with full points.
Antonio Cairoli, second overall and equipped with the
SCORPION™ MX Soft rear, tried hard against his Slovenian opponent but two mistakes proved costly. The nine times World Champion still leads the championship standings with a thirty-four point advantage. There were good placings also for
Jeremy Seewer in fifth and
Romain Febvre, eighth, who was back in action after the ankle injury he suffered in Argentina.
Jorge Prado still dictates the law in the
MX2 class. The defending Champion took a perfect double win in the motos and jumped into the lead in the championship standings. There was an excellent performance by
Thomas Kjer Olsen who, despite a disastrous start in the second Heat, managed to recover and close the Grand Prix in second place.
Mitchell Evans confirmed his rookie potential again by finishing on the third step of the podium.
Henri Jacobi finished fourth despite a crash in the first race when he was running third and kept third place in the championship standings.
Next weekend the
Saint Jean d’Angely’ circuit will host the
Grand Prix of France for the seventh round of eighteen scheduled in the 2019 season.
