Between nomadism and mythology

On the occasion of the 2019 edition of Milan’s #salonedelmobile, #etro Home presents the new Interiors collection with a scenographic set up within Jumbo Group’s exhibition space, located in Hall 4, dedicated to luxury.

The showcase introduces visitors to the mood of the 2019 edition through a selection of furnishings with a strong expressive value, characterized by the use of the Paisley #design and dévoré velvet with a pattern that recalls the initial E of the #etro logo. The figure of Pegasus, historical symbol of the brand and protagonist of the Mythos dining table, introduces the new mythological theme, while the spectacular setting enhances the brand’s eclectic soul, seen for example in the use of contrasting purple and acid green.

The central fulcrum of the exhibition space is a large Tree of Life, a symbol of fertility and origin of the Paisley pattern, from whose fronds emerge the four spaces housing the collection. We find the nomadic theme, already introduced with the 2018 collection and now expanded in an ethnic key: it is present in the warm colors that recall the dry lands of the savannah, in the shapes that remind of traditional African masks and in the use of exotic and natural materials such as horn, Vienna straw and different varieties of wood. The Masai armchair, proposed in different coverings for the Milan #design Week, is emblematic of this mood: it is a tribute to Africa, recalling the continent both in its shape and in the detail of the bronzed metal rings. The journey through time and space also takes a mythological direction: protagonist is not only the iconic winged horse but also symbolic arrows and lightning bolts that give shape to image-filled furnishings.

In the first living room, the ethnic mood of the warm brown tones and low tables with mosaic work in ox horn fuses with the Middle Eastern atmosphere of the new Woodstock sofa. Re-elaborated in a modular version and without feet, its mattress-like shape is reminiscent of the “Majlis” – literally “a place where one sits” – of Arab tradition. In the second space, divided into living room and dining room, African and Middle Eastern influences are combined with the theme of travel, expressed by the sofa covered in patchwork fabric. The immersive journey into the new collection continues with the ‘thousand-and-one-nights’ imagery of the third space, made up of bedroom and living room: the shades of pink and blue emphasize the components of the Medina series, matched with the precious golden finishes of the dresser, tables and bookcases, in a setting strongly characterized by the floral motif of the wallpaper. Finally, in the fourth room, furnishings with rigorous lines and a color palette of separate shades of red, the brand’s institutional color, set the mood.
