Organic form and whimsy – TON set to unveil new products in Milan

At this year’s Milan trade fair, TON will introduce four new products – each crafted by a designer who has been collaborating with TON for a long time. The highlight is the stylish Ginger, an armchair designed by the Spanish #design duo Yonoh. The playful and highly practical YYY coffee tables are the result of yet another collaboration between Alex Gufler and TON. The Leaf collection has been expanded to include a dining chair, and the classic shape of chair 811 has been transformed into a barstool model numbered 813. TON will be on view from 9–14 April 2019 at Salone del Mobile’s hall 12, stall B09 C14.

Last year studio Yonoh brought us the Valencia collection; this year it follows with Ginger. “We wanted to create an organic piece of furniture featuring gentle curves. The bulbous shape of the healing ginger root was our inspiration and gave the armchair its name,” opens Clara del Portillo from studio Yonoh. The idea gave birth to an upholstered armchair with a fresh appeal that is solidly built without appearing heavy. A slight bend on the upper part of the legs pays homage to TON’s signature wood-bending technique. The backrest and armrests are made from a single piece of pressed plywood and are upholstered in quality materials, creating a neat and compact unit. As a result, Ginger is comfortable yet lightweight. “In Milan you will see Ginger adorned in rich velvet, which has been recently added to our upholstery portfolio,” adds Jan Juza, TON’s Marketing Director.

Three heights and three diameters encourage creative play with Alex Gufler’s new YYY coffee tables. The whimsical leg #design forms the letter Y when viewed from below and gives the collection its name. “I wanted to create a simple product with small details that are focussed on #design and utility,” explains Alex Gufler, the designer behind TON’s successful Merano collection. “By shaving off one side of the tabletop I gave the collection its distinctive and functional shape, as the tables can be placed along a wall or next to another piece of furniture,” explains the designer the reason for the unusual form. The tabletop comes in solid beech or oak. No matter how hard you try, one #table will never be enough.

Another product to be unveiled at the Milan trade fair is barstool no. 813, a cousin to Josef Hoffmann’s renowned chair #design known by the code 811. Just like the original chair, the barstool can be finished with airy cane weave, plush upholstery or a combination of the two. The fourth new product is the Leaf armchair with visually understated, pressed-plywood armrests, designed by the Italian studio E-ggs. The armchair joins the other members of the Leaf family, which can now grace your interior as a unified whole. The seat on the Leaf armchair can be upholstered to provide hours of sitting comfort.

The TON stand will also feature the company’s classic models made from hand-bent wood, the award-winning Chips lounge chair, the Prag chair and the Santiago 02 collection for people with reduced mobility. After Milan the company will head to New York to introduce the spring’s new models at the ICFF from 19–22 May 2019.
