Giorgetti is at IMM 2019, exhibiting at the Fair and in the Kaiser-Wilhelm Ring Store, to present an interior design concept based on functional elegance and different influences

At IMM 2019, taking place in Cologne from 14 to 20 January, #giorgetti consolidates its role as interpreter of contemporary #design trends, presenting its new products, which describe an increasingly fluid, comprehensive interior #design concept: divisions between rooms disappear, functions are transformed, the comfort of the furniture moves from the house towards the open air. More products have been added to the world of #giorgetti, which presents its lifestyle concept at the exhibition, as well as dedicating particular attention to the kitchen area at its Kaiser-Wilhelm Ring store.

With an exhibition area of over 500 m2 (Hall 11.1 Stand B20-C21 & B26-C35), the company reveals an elegant narrative display in which Giorgetti's best selling designs blend harmoniously with its new pieces. A conceptual gallery accompanies visitors on a journey through history, culture, #design and technology. The stars of this experience are two of the firm’s icons, in new editions to mark its 120th anniversary: the small Dry armchair by Massimo Morozzi and the folding 50250 chair by Adriano and Paolo Suman. Two extraordinary examples of the cabinet-making skills of the company's Matrix division in the 1980s. Also by Paolo Suman is the new Grand Tour collection, a chair and folding tables, which illustrates the designer’s work from the 1980s to the present day and recalls, in terms of its portability, the idea of being able to recreate domestic comforts anywhere.

Giorgetti collaborated with Ludovica and Roberto Palomba to develop new multi-functional pieces for outdoor areas, gardens, terraces and yachts that can be arranged with the Apsara modular seating solution, which in turn enriches itself with many new features and solutions of its own. The #giorgetti outdoor division is becoming increasingly structured and wide-ranging: as with the interior furniture, each outdoor collection is the result of tremendous attention to detail and research into the most exclusive, high-performance materials.

In Cologne, #giorgetti presents all the collections that in recent months have contributed towards completing the company’s product range, from the enveloping #allaround chairs to the #leaf lamps presented in the leather version, enhanced by a few new items, such as the rocking horse from the Atmosphere collection, which adds detail to the #giorgetti lifestyle with small furnishing accessories, decorative items and exquisite leisure accessories.

Once again, the living concept is illustrated by chairs, tables and storage units designed to last through time; instead of following current trends, the designs elegantly reveal the function of each piece. On show are the delicate Adam sofa and the curvy Drive sofa, both designed by Carlo Colombo, the Galet chaise longue, the small Hug armchair and Progetti Fashion. Among the tables, the harmonious asymmetry of Disegual and the long lines of Blade stand out, while the Pegaso and Frame beds are displayed in the bedroom. Then there are the Alfred and Alexa chairs, the architectural form of the Charlotte cabinet and the iconic #design of The Cabinet of Memories: a poetic piece that holds Giorgetti's 120 years of history.

Natural colours are typical of Giorgetti's style and allow the beauty of the shapes and spaces that make up each of the company's projects to be enhanced by sophisticated elegance. The warm, textured feel of leather, fabrics and wood contrasts with the coldness of the metal and marble details, creating a #design experience that also engages the senses as well.

From materials to shapes, Giorgetti's #design method is based on an architectural approach that achieves its fullest expression in the kitchen. Considered as a key area for socialising within the house, it is presented as an elegant, practical system, which will be on show in Giorgetti's Cologne store during IMM 2019. Here the GK.02 kitchen reveals the company's ability to operate in every area of #design.

With rigorous lines, monumental proportions and a super-contemporary combination of materials, GK.02 is a perfect balance between craftsmanship and industrial innovation. The clean, seamless surfaces create a sculptural look, while the customisable features allow the working areas to be hidden, so the kitchen can be inserted into any open-plan space. The details exceed mere practicality, becoming elements of style; the elegant hues of marble, the transparency of glass, Peltrox finishes and wood veneers create an extraordinary aesthetic complexity that brings the kitchen to the centre of the home.

ALL AROUND – armchair
#design by Ludovica + Roberto Palomba
A soft, smooth shape, reminiscent of a pebble or even an island lapped by the sea. This is the #allaround collection of daybeds designed by Ludovica+Roberto Palomba to pay homage to the joy of relaxation. It now includes a new, cosy piece with a high backrest: a nest where you can take refuge and rediscover the pleasure of feeling pampered. It has a monocoque structure with a fixed or swivel base and upholstery in fabric and/or leather, monochrome or two colours, accessorised with a pair of goose down cushions. #allaround represents a new interpretation of space where the person is once again the central focus.

APSARA – outdoor system
#design by Ludovica + Roberto Palomba
The Apsara modular seating system used by #giorgetti to launch its outdoor range continues to grow, offering an increasing amount of personalisation to satisfy every demand for comfort. There is a new chaise longue with a reclining backrest, which can be accessorised with a series of small tables, either free-standing or attachable to the chaise longue. Here again, Ludovica and Roberto Palomba were inspired by the concept of simple living, creating a very low platform in carob coloured aluminium alternated with afrormosia wood slats, which holds a movable composition of cushions with removable, waterproof covers, so outdoor living can be a relaxing experience. It guarantees relaxation with the functionality of the chaise longue being supported by a shading cover made from either woven leather or metal.

BREAK – outdoor table
#design by Ludovica + Roberto Palomba
The pairing of form and function has always been a part of #design and is brilliantly demonstrated by the #Break #table by Ludovica and Roberto Palomba. It adds a new element to Giorgetti’s open air lifestyle. The concept was inspired by the repetition of a modular rectangular element that creates a rigorous chequerboard pattern on the brushed oriental grey marble surface, or a refined alternation between the opaqueness and transparency that characterise the two decorative elements that form the base. Legs in wood and metal lighten the overall appearance and create a surprisingly interesting composition, reminiscent of the charm of
fusuma, the architectural panels used in Japanese houses to separate rooms.

LOOP – small outdoor armchair
#design by Ludovica + Roberto Palomba
Based on the intersection of pure geometric forms, tempered by softer elements, the #loop outdoor armchair available in two sizes is designed by Ludovica and Roberto Palomba. The basic shapes were cleared to obtain simple lines; the surfaces play with materials, such as the hi-tech EVA, which is completely waterproof, creating totally unexpected, tactile, textured sensations; the #design challenges the artisanal tradition, evoking the skill of master cabinet-makers who used to bend wood to make old sailing boats. Comfort is provided by the large cushions with removable covers and waterproof padding.

Ludovica+Roberto Palomba. Our creations, whether they be pieces of #design or architecture, are derived from observations of change in human behavior.

It is important to see these products outside a fixed location or period – they do not reflect the latest fad but are the result of rationality and considered craftsmanship.

Our initial drafts are projections of our own needs. Our two visions are complementary and our #design consensual.
The challenge of our work is merging function, innovation and longevity. We seek to project courage and serenity through the purity and originality of our work.

When a work is finished it is not complete, time will continue to shape how it is considered by others. An anticipation of this helps greatly in shaping classic objects which retain their beauty and utility.
Perhaps we are trying to pluck our creations from a collective unconsciousness and our task is to mold and deliver them. A truly successful piece of #design must feel fresh but not unfamiliar when it is discovered.

As with a partner, love is evident.
And there it is, that is what characterize our creations: research, often long, difficult, exhilarating - to finally reach what is EVIDENT. GEA – sofa with armrests
#design by Chi Wing Lo
Inspired by the Greek word
γαια (earth), #gea is a collection of furniture and objects designed by #chiwinglo to reproduce domestic comfort even in open air spaces, which is now enhanced by the new version of the sofa featuring two armrests. On an aluminium and carob coloured steel frame, sit cushions with removable, waterproof covers: the softness of these textile components creates a pleasant contrast to the minimal, rigorous lines of the base. Fitting into the #gea collection with natural ease, the new piece completes the range of chairs, tables, sun loungers, parasols, lamps and accessories.

Chi Wing Lo. An architect whose furniture designs have helped to shape the direction of #giorgetti since 1995, #chiwinglo was recently among the Italian Delegates to advance Italian #design in Russia. His aspiration for timelessness has brought his collections to worldwide attention and many of his work continue to be much sought after today. His architectural and #design works have been awarded, exhibited and published internationally. In 2007, he was invited by the Hong Kong Government to contribute a #design to commemorate the tenth anniversary of unification with China. The same year, the Radio Television Hong Kong broadcast a documentary of his life and work. Lo was Art Director of #giorgetti S.p.A. from 2004-2006, and the chairman of the jury for the St.Petersburg #design Biennale 2009. His Tower-House in Athens was nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Prize in Architecture in 2009.

Raised in Hong Kong, Lo received his Master Degree in Architecture from Harvard University with the best thesis prize in 1988. He had taught at the Syracuse University, NY, and was a member of the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart. Served as a visiting critic in different Universities in Greece and abroad, he is an active practitioner, integrating architecture, interior and furniture #design for projects in Milan, Athens, Instanbul, Yalta (Crimea), Beirut, Dubai and Beijing.

Since 2010, he has been working on the sculptures he has conceived in drawings from To Kardizu 1992. Exhibitions of these sculptures have been scheduled and planned for the coming years in different parts of the Far East.

GIORGETTI ATMOSPHERE

CLOP – rocking horse
#design by Dominic Siguang Ma
With a keen sense of playfulness, Dominic Siguang Ma pays homage to childhood memories and designs a contemporary rocking horse for #giorgetti. It's an iconic piece that is more than a child's toy, offering a new element to add to the home. The simple lines make up an extraordinarily detailed composition thanks to a sinuous form with curved elements that create concave and convex shapes. References to the organic world are evident in its sculptural plasticity, which is almost reminiscent of the perfection of a flower, the brilliance of a shell, the sinuosity of a horse. In fact, it was from the traditional art of saddlery that #giorgetti borrowed the techniques and materials to create the upholstery for this seat.

LEAF – lamp
#design by Giancarlo Bosio & #giorgetti Research Centre
A sheaf of lights defines the architectural space and captures attention as if it were on stage. This theatrical concept inspired the #leaf suspended lamp, which is now available in a new, elegant saddle leather version, offered in the different shades of the #giorgetti range. The long tubular components with LED lights are gathered in an elegant rose, which allows the height of each individual light to be adjusted, so that new configurations are always possible.
