Yabu Pushelberg opens new studio in New York and launches new collection

The multidisciplinary #design firm unveils its new studio in Tribeca and furniture collaboration with #henge in March

NEW YORK — #yabupushelberg, a multidisciplinary #design firm founded by George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg in Toronto, is opening an expansive studio in #newyork City and launching its second collection with Italian furniture brand #henge on March 21st, ahead of Salone del Mobile 2019.

Located at 66 White Street in Tribeca, the three-story studio showcases Yabu Pushelberg’s modern aesthetic and dynamic approach to the human experience. The space exhibits the principals’ extraordinary creativity, attention to detail and broad range of expertise, from lighting, furniture and product #design to evoking a mood through #design. The second floor, which will be open by appointment only, serves as a gallery, an exploratory environment that is constantly evolving.

For the inaugural exhibit, #yabupushelberg tapped internationally renowned interactive designers Jason Bruges Studio to create two immersive art installations. With dramatic light projections and structures that bring natural elements indoors. The films explore visual interventions in natural imagery; using symmetry and mirroring to create a sense of unease and tension in both woodland and water scenes. Nature’s patterns and textures are amplified through the application of symmetry but also appear immediately artificial and convey an ominous beauty, with each scene building upon the next to create an atmosphere of dark curiosity, rooted in a natural aesthetic.

Named Noce, or Walnut in Italian, the family of dining and lounge chairs, handmade in solid wood, were inspired by the sculptural form of a tree. Three elongated legs that embody the strength of a trunk support a gently rounded back and armrest that signify a botanical crown. The proportions of Noce were mastered over the span of two years through the precision and craftsmanship of Henge’s team. Upholstered in nubuck leather, Noce is available in a tonal palette that ranges from honey, taupe, nude, grey to charcoal.
