Antonio Cairoli wins, for the second time in a row,
the MXGP class and keeps the Red Plate. Thomas Kjer Olsen wins both MX2 races
and jumped into the lead in the championship standings
Matterley Basin (Great Britain), 24 March 2019 – After brilliant results obtained in the opening round in
Argentina,
Pirelli confirmed the excellent performance of its products by dominating the
Grand Prix of Great Britain – the
second round of
2019 FIM Motocross World Championship - which took place at the spectacular
Matterley Basin circuit.
SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid Soft front and rear were the tyres chosen by almost all the riders equipped by the Italian brand to face the medium-hard soil of the British track. 129 racers from 192 starters in four categories chose to rely on
Pirelli.
Thanks to first and second positions,
Antonio Cairoli secured his second overall victory in the
MXGP class. Behind him was
Tim Gajser, winner of Saturday's qualification heat, who grabbed first position in the final race and finished the Grand Prix as runner-up. There was a good performance also by
Jeremy Van Horebeek who, riding for the privateer Honda SR team, took a bright fifth place overall.
With defending champion
Jorge Prado forced to miss the race due to injury,
Thomas Kjer Olsen dominated the
MX2 class with a perfect double. The fast Dane also bagged the red plate in the championship standings.
Henry Jacobi finished second ahead of a surprising
Tom Vialle who grasped the first podium of his young career.
Calvin Vlaanderen’s fourth place
confirmed the extreme versatility of
Pirelli’s tires as
the Italian brand filled the top positions with four different brands.
At the
Grand Prix of Great Britain Pirelli presented to the teams the
SCORPION™ MX SOFT in the new
100/90-19 size, suitable for use with 250F bikes, which will certainly be a key model and bound to used by several riders at the
Grand Prix of the Netherlands hosted by the sandy
Valkenswaard track next weekend.
