Hub Creativo: Alcantara at Paris Deco Off

For this year's Paris Deco Off, #alcantara is returning to the Art Cube gallery in the historic Saint-Germain neighbourhood to disclose to the #design community the results of a creative journey that weaves together new inspirations and concrete creations – perfect for dressing interiors with the material's unrivalled soft touch.

The staging for the gallery’s main floor recreates the turmoil of a true “bureau de style”.

A library of colours and designs taken from 14 different trend books – the fruit of recent work on 2019’s top trends – is positioned randomly on a metal mesh covering the entire wall.

These trend books form the perfect balance between tradition and innovation, drawing on experimental and classic themes from the world of Italian tailoring, and reinterpreting them through the different techniques with which Alcantara® can be worked. From laminating to digital and #screen printing, embossing, braiding, and laser cutting and punching, the material is extremely versatile, opening it up to a whole host of new uses.

From heritage to the future, each concept book speaks of beauty, functionality, Italian #design and sustainability, highlighting the values and multi-purpose nature of a unique material that takes centre stage in so many sectors, from fashion to accessories, high-tech, automotive and, of course, #interiordesign.

Hence come numerous creations that, organised in different themes, provide the creative spark for even the most challenging of projects. And plenty of inspiration too.

Nature is one such theme, inspiring #bloom, which recreates micro and macro versions of flowers, #garden, where the natural world is evoked through clean lines and backgrounds with simple graphics of plants and tropical leaves, and #jungle, a visionary interpretation of animal prints (also available in the brighter #pop version) that hints at the sustainable approach taken by #alcantara, which has been certified as carbon neutral since 2009.

Some of the books make clear references to a few of Alcantara’s many fields of application.

In homage to and designed especially for the automotive world, #circuit stands out for being the most innovative and technological, for its sleek lines, and for its industrial colour schemes, while #screen gleams like a car body thanks to the use of metal laminates.

For the fashion world, TIMELESS, inspired by the Italian creativity that #alcantara exports globally, reinterprets iconic fashion motifs such as houndstooth and tweed. But also #matt, where strips of #alcantara are braided to mimic textile and basket weaving, and #lace, a variant featuring architectural #lace that reworks feminine classics into technical staples thanks to the unique characteristics of raw cut #alcantara.

Inspiration to #design comes evident with #monolith, a variant that covers surfaces linked to the worlds of architecture and #interiordesign (terrazzo, concrete, etc.) in #alcantara material.

But that is not all. #alcantara is about a continuous quest for new effects, as shown by #frame, a theme that revolves around vibrant, three-dimensional surfaces with bright metal sections that are achieved by embossing the material. It acts as an extraordinary medium – an artist’s canvas – in #handmade, which is inspired by Action Painting, an artistic flow where instinctual and vigorous brushstrokes result in coloured marks and abstract lines.

Lastly, there are two trend books where #design and colour really speak for Alcantara’s lifestyle values: #seventies, an explosion of polka dots of varying sizes that overlap one another and call to mind the backdrop to the 1970s, and #south, a clear tribute to the atmosphere, colours and graphics of the Mediterranean.

Each trend book puts forward possible solutions for transforming public and private spaces with elegant furnishings and exquisite decorative details, inviting architects, designers and decorators to draw inspiration from Alcantara's contemporary appeal.

And alongside mere inspiration, there is something altogether more concrete. Deco Off will also see the launch of a new #alcantara colour chart where, together with the brand’s best sellers, stylish new shades will be on show, ready to dress any interior with soft elegance.

From the harmonious ruby red of Chianti to the elegant pink tones of Cameo, to Andy, a bright yellow that calls to mind the colour of Warhol’s banana on the album cover of The Velvet Underground & Nico, and to the new interpretations of timeless green with Emerald, each colour tells a story and reveals new style possibilities. And of course, neutrals are also included, such as the delicate white Neve and the greige Koala, as well as more intense browns (Muscatte and Monkfish) and unmissable black (Notte).

All of these new shades are ready to be combined with the existing #alcantara colours and collections to create coverings and decorations that feature a strong contemporary flavour with a focus on sustainability.
