Smart at the Paris Motor Show 2018

Stuttgart/Paris. 20 years ago, #Smart set out to radically change urban mobility under the banner "Reduce to the max". Today, the brand is closer than ever to achieving this aim and on course to realise the founders' original vision with an all-electric drive system. The #Smart forease show car is emblematic of the radical new vision as well as Smart's straightforward and liberating side. The design approach is highlighted by a new special model in the guise of the “edition pureblack”. The "ready to" app family and the #Smart EQ control app are designed to make urban life easier and stand for Smart's holistic understanding of mobility. The same goes for the global car sharing market leader, car2go, which will additionally be launching in Paris in January 2019. The French capital will be the fourth location with an electric car2go fleet.

Right from the start, car2go will have 400 #Smart EQ fortwos (power consumption, combined: 14.5–12.9 kWh/100 km[1]; CO2 emissions, combined: 0 g/km) at its disposal in Paris. Several hundred more vehicles are to be added to the fleet in the course of 2019.

Smart is setting the tone for its appearance in the fashion and luxury Mecca of Paris with a particularly stylish variant of the two-seater in the guise of the "edition pureblack" special model. This limited-edition special model will be available both with the two petrol engines (fuel consumption, combined: 5.0-4.8 l/100 km; CO2 emissions, combined:114-110 g/km)2 and as an electric #Smart #eqfortwo (power consumption, combined: 18.3–13.2 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions, combined:0 g/km)2. The vehicles painted in matt black are set apart by accent trim parts in high-gloss black and highlights in red. The "edition pureblack" will be available for ordering in the coming months, with deliveries set to begin next year.

Smart is celebrating its 20th birthday with a show car that interprets and embodies urban driving fun in a refreshing way. The #Smart forease underscores the uncompromising approach which #Smart has been pursuing for 20 years with the aim of offering a straightforward solution for life in the city. The extrovert design without a roof and the full commitment to electric mobility indicate that Smart's electric future is all set to be anything but boring. At the same time, it is also a homage to the pioneering "crossblade" (2001) and "forspeed" (2011) studies. Both the #Smart brand and the #Smart forease stand for emotionality, lifestyle and attitude.

"The #Smart forease embodies a refreshingly simple form of driving fun in the city, standing for urban electric mobility without compromise – because, if in doubt, #Smart always opts for a consistent approach. The result is a sustainable driving experience built on freedom," says Katrin Adt, new Head of #Smart since the beginning of October."The #Smart forease transports this message in a cool and convincing manner."

"ready to" app: now with new features

Many #Smart drivers are happy to share their cars with friends, but things are apt to get a little awkward when it comes to sharing the costs. The #Smart service "ready to share" resolves this conflict with a payment solution. This app provides the user with a convenient means of sharing their car and also charging an individually defined amount for the use of their #Smart. The service is now available free of charge in the "ready to" app in Germany and can be activated when the selected vehicle has been ordered with the "ready to" package. The "pactris" loading assistant and the "ready to fuel" service, which provides a convenient means of comparing filling station prices, have also been integrated into the "ready to" app as "ready to pack". "ready to pack" uses a sophisticated algorithm which tells the user whilst shopping whether and how everything will fit in the boot of their #Smart.

The services are free and will be phased in in the coming weeks, depending in some instances on the country concerned. They will be available for activation in the "ready to" app.

Smart EQ control app: the perfect digital companion

Smart is simplifying access to electric mobility: the new #Smart EQ control app has been available since August - as the digital extension of the #Smart #eqfortwo and #Smart EQ forfour (power consumption, combined: 20.8-12.9 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions, combined:0 g/km)[3]. This app combines numerous items of car-related information, such as the current charge level and the control of vehicle functions such as pre-entry climate control. The new features further include intelligent push notifications which provide the user with anticipatory suggestions.
