MoonShine Materials - Preview Fuorisalone 2018

C&C #milano Showroom via Zenale 3 Milano

The company MoonShine Materials was founded in 2013 and now presents a selection of sophisticated fabrics from all over Japan. The roots of the collections run deep into the country's rich textile traditions. The collections are the tangible expression of new weaving and treatment methods applied to the fabrics; they combine different materials and ideas with great sensitivity and cultural depth.

                                           THE COLLECTIONS

KINRAN

The origins of #kinran weaving, typical of the Nishijin district to the North-West of Kyoto, date back to the Kofun period (from 250/300 AC until the mid-6th century). Major improvements have been made to the silk printing and processing methods for the #kinran fabrics that traditionally includes gold thread; it is now extremely high quality and used in the production of luxury collections and innovative solutions of elegant simplicity.

STREAM KASURI (IKAT)

Kasuri (Ikat) is a weave of cotton yarns dyed with a binding process that modulates the presence/absence of color to create different patterns and chromatic effects in the finished fabric.

This type of weaving is traditionally used to produce the fabric for one of Japan's most elegant kimonos in silk, the Kasuri-omeshi; now, thanks to the collaboration between MoonShine and the artisan craftworkers of Nishijin, it can also be used to produce kimonos in cotton for less formal occasions.

FABRIC IN CARBON FIBER

In recent years, MoonShine has studied the advantages (lightness, strength, lack of corrosion) and the disadvantages (low resistance to bending and friction) of carbon fibers. Constant improvements have been made to the looms that were originally used for weaving silk. This is the background to a collection of fabrics with new functions and a unique #design. The carbon fibers can also be associated with colored fibers glass.

SHIDORI

Shidori in the name given to a unique technology that permits silk to be machine-washed for the first time. Silk can now be used in the production of previously unimaginable articles. The fabric does not contain any mineral oil-based products and does not cause allergic reactions; thanks to the special process, the soft, gentle properties of the silk can be fully enjoyed, with no concerns regarding deterioration, shrinking or fading over time.
