Sébastien Ogier (3rd) said:
“It’s been a good morning for us and, honestly, I wasn’t expecting to be this close at the end of the first loop. We knew we would have a tough job opening the road and we lost time in the first two stages [SS1 and SS2]. In the long one [SS3] tyre management always comes into play and we were able to manage that well.
“The gaps aren’t so big and we are just starting the #rally so the pressure is still on and everything is still completely open. Tonight we’ll have a better view of what is achievable this weekend, but until then we just focus on our own #rally.”
Ott Tänak (4th) said:
“The car has been working really well and I’ve enjoyed the morning. Our tyre choice might have been a bit aggressive, but in the end I think it was the right one and the first three stages have been pretty good.
“We lost a bit of time on the long stage [SS3] with a slow puncture half way through, but the speed is there and we’re still in a very good position. Let’s see what we can do this afternoon.”
Elfyn Evans (10th) said:
“The feeling in the first two stages [SS1 and SS2] was okay but we started to struggle part way through the long one [SS3] – losing some traction and precision after the Tarmac section. It could be a tricky one for us this afternoon, but let’s see what happens.”
