Rally Argentina (27-30 April) – Day 2
Back in action on day two of #rally Argentina, Kris Meeke and #paulnagle showed the speed of the Citroën C3 #wrc, as they collected two stage wins at the start of the leg. Unfortunately, their race came to an abrupt end when they went off in the afternoon.
- After a huge amount of work done last night by the Citroën Total Abu Dhabi WRT’s mechanics and engineers, both C3 WRCs drove out of parc ferme this morning.
- During service, the team detected an oil leak on Craig Breen and Scott Martin’s car. The Irish-English crew therefore didn’t start the leg so as to avoid any risk of damaging the engine. After repairs that involved removing and refitting the powertrain, the no.8 C3 #wrc went into parc ferme ahead of its expected return tomorrow under Rally2 rules.
- Meanwhile, Kris Meeke and #paulnagle set off on the day’s stages, held on roads not far from Villa Carlos Paz. After getting their eye in on SS10, they moved up a gear on the next two stages, winning both Los Gigantes and Boca del Arroyo – Bajo del Pungo.
- After the mid-leg break, the crews set off for second runs on the stages. On SS14, Kris Meeke lost control of his car, which was thrown into a series of high-speed rolls. Obviously, he was unable to continue and had no choice but to retire.
- On their return to Villa Carlos Paz, Kris and Paul were seen by the rally’s medical team, to go through the necessary checks. They were given the all clear, but the damage suffered by the car meant they had to retire from the #rally altogether.
- Tomorrow, Craig Breen and Scott Martin will therefore be the team’s sole representatives for tomorrow’s third and final leg.
Kris Meeke: “This morning, I was pleased to be able to repay my mechanics for the incredible job they did in repairing the car last night with two stage wins. It was also good to be able to contest these stages, which are new for all the crews, and find some good pace with the car again. On SS14, I lost control of the car on a very fast corner. I oversteered, the car span and we hit a bank. We were then thrown into a series of rolls…”
