All good things come in threes: Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross ready for the new Global Rallycross season

2017 #rallycross Championship season kicks off in Memphis at the weekend #volkswagen Andretti #rallycross team out to defend its title World champion Scott Speed last year’s runner-up Tanner Foust back in the #volkswagen Beetle GRC Wolfsburg (28 April 2017). Four cylinders, two-litre displacement, and 560 hp: the 2017 Global #rallycross season is under starter’s orders. Four teams and twelve drivers have registered for this year’s competition, which comprises twelve rounds in total. The #volkswagen Andretti #rallycross team launches its title defence at the opening round of the season in Memphis, Tennessee (USA), on 28/29 April. They do so with a #volkswagen Beetle GRC that has been the subject of further development at #volkswagen Motorsport in Hannover. “Winning the Driver and Team titles in 2016 was a great success for us,” said #volkswagen Motorsport Director Sven Smeets, who will attend the season-opener in Memphis. “However, we do not want to rest on our laurels. As such, we have once again worked hard this year to evolve the #volkswagen Andretti Beetle. It would be great to win another title.” #volkswagen Motorsport continues to support the Andretti Autosport #rallycross team As in previous years, #volkswagen Motorsport will again provide the Andretti Autosport team, which is run by #volkswagen of America, with personnel and technical know-how at the races. The two drivers – Scott Speed (USA), champion in 2015 and 2016, and two-time champion Tanner Foust (USA) – will again drive the four-wheel drive Beetle on the asphalt and gravel circuits. Speed is now in his fourth season, and already has two Drivers titles and eleven individual wins to his name. He is out to add more success to his CV this year. “Together with #volkswagen Motorsport, our team has invested a lot of energy in developing and testing the #volkswagen Beetle. Only after the first race will we know whether all that effort has paid dividends. Memphis is a new circuit with a great layout. We obviously want to continue where we left off last year,” said reigning champion Scott Speed. Champion Speed and last year’s runner-up Foust go into the season as title contenders. The 2017 calendar features twelve races, including five new venues, such as the opening round in Memphis, Louisville, Thompson and the Mecca of North American motorsport, Indianapolis. The teams also head across the Canadian border for the race in Ottawa. October’s season finale will take place in Los Angeles. “It is great to see the extent to which the GRC has developed over the last six years in the USA. I am pleased to be able to showcase the sport to fans in new cities and at new racetracks,” said Foust, commenting on the 2017 race calendar.
