Ford Maintains Market Leadership with Strong Retail and CV Sales

Ford was the UK market leader in total vehicle, car and CV sales in February. #ford was also the clear leader in retail car sales and net fleet, putting #ford in prime position heading into March, when sales increase significantly due to the registration plate change.

Andy Barratt, #ford of Britain chairman and managing director, said:  "Ford’s long-standing market leadership is being consolidated by the strength of our more profitable retail sales, which play a significant role next month when the March registration plate change results in sales around seven times higher than February.

“At the Geneva show this week there is further evidence of our continued investment in exciting products and technologies with the next generation #fiesta ST making its debut featuring an all-new 200PS, three-cylinder 1.5-litre EcoBoost engine. Also on show is our fantastic #ford Performance line-up, which includes the performance flagship #ford GT, in special ’66 Heritage Edition livery, the #ford Mustang, Focus RS and the Focus ST."

According to the official SMMT figures, February car sales in the UK were down 0.3 per cent at 83,115 registrations, compared with February 2016.  #ford sold 9,909 cars in February, down 13.9 per cent, compared with February 2016.  Ford’s car sales lead over its nearest rival was 2,583.

Ford remains the clear leader in retail car sales, which most accurately reflect the preferences of private buyers.  At 14.4 per cent, Ford’s February retail car sales share is over four percentage points ahead of its nearest rival.

The #ford #fiesta has been the UK best-seller for eight years and is maintaining that position by a significant margin, with 4,282 sales and a 5.2 per cent market share in February, 1,333 sales and 1.6 percentage points of market share ahead of its nearest competitor.  #fiesta also leads UK retail sales with 3,086 registrations, 1,776 ahead of its nearest rival.

The strength and breadth of the #ford model range is demonstrated by #fiesta (1st), #bmax (5th), Focus (3rd), C-MAX (1st), EcoSport (6th), Kuga (6th), and Mustang (5th) all featuring near, or at, the top of their segments in February.

UK light commercial vehicle sales in February were down 4.3 per cent at 13,291, compared with February 2016.  Sales of #ford CVs were down 5.4 per cent at 4,598, compared with February 2016.  Ford’s CV market share in February was 30.6 per cent, down from 32.1 per cent in February 2016.

Ford is in its 52nd year of UK CV market leadership and the success of Ford’s CV range was in February recognised with a number of industry awards.  Vans A2Z named the #ford #fiesta van their best small van and #transit Custom was awarded the title of best medium panel van. Fleet World also chose the #fiesta van as a winner, taking their best car derived van category, #transit Courier was Best Light Van and #transit Connect named best small van.
