Bisazza - Collection 2017

This year at #cersaie in #bologna - September 26-30, 2016 - #bisazza will introduce its first collection of decorated #parquet from the WOOD line, designed by Studio Job, #kikivaneijk and Edward van Vliet, in addition to decorative mosaics, with new colours and textures, from designers #ferrucciolaviani, #alessandromendini and #kikivaneijk.
MOSAIC COLLECTION
FERRUCCIO LAVIANI
The new mosaic patterns – Arzigogolo, André, Albert, George and William – are the product of the first partnership between #ferrucciolaviani and #bisazza. Decorative designs featuring classic themes were given a singularly artistic makeover to create striking contemporary designs.
Reminiscent of Scottish tartans, the Albert, George and William designs take a new look at the timeless texture, available in the classic version and a more modern vision enhanced by pairing vivid colors.
André and Arzigogolo, are a stylistic revisitation of a decorative pattern from the 1930s inspired upon the work of André Arbus and Gio Ponti. Their almost hypnotic graphism creates an overlapping of lines and undulating curves.
“The two collections have very different references: the first one has the typical Post Deco graphic sign of the 30s/40s, this style could be positioned between Andre Arbus and the early Gio Ponti production. The second collection is inspired by the weaving of fabric, that, as the mosaic, is unique because of because of its warp and weft structure.
The weave of a fabric is much like the grid of a mosaic, which is why I used it as the basis for what would become the collection. I broke up the structural lines of the #design and reinterpreted them with mosaic tiles in order to create a textured pattern that would maintain the same vibe as the material itself…”

KIKI VAN EIJK
Neo-romanticism and a feminine hand for Ranunculus and Calystegia, the two decorative mosaics that inaugurate the collaboration between #bisazza and Dutch designer #kikivaneijk.
Created in large format using traditional artistic technique, the flowers sprout and climb up the bricks of an imaginary wall reproduced in digitally-created mosaic.
“What’s growing between the tiles?
The inspiration for this family of designs lies in my personal environment, the area where I live. I live in a natural protected environment between the fields, flowers and weeds! Wild flowers are growing in my garden, between the tiles of my house, they are everywhere.
All patterns are inspired by weeds. If you look at them, closely, with a macro eye, you discover they’re actually very beautiful.”

ALESSANDRO MENDINI
Building on a decades-long, successful working partnership, this year #alessandromendini designed three new geometric decorative patterns for #bisazza:
• Granada is an Arab-inspired classic ornamental motif.
• Ferrara is a contemporary, three-dimensional interpretation of the "diamond-shaped ashlar stones" pattern that characterizes the facade of the Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara.
• Louisiana bears the hallmark feature of the poetic "Mendini brand", in which color is conceived as language, as alphabet.
"Ferrara, Granada and Louisiana are mosaic patterns based on three decorative motifs with geographic references to specific cultures. The three designs and their colours are reminiscent of Italian, Arab and Nordic atmospheres and rhythms. All signs originate from a classical idea of the “ornament”.”

THE WOOD COLLECTION
STUDIO JOB
KIKI VAN EIJK
EDWARD VAN VLIET
For the first decorative collection in the #parquet Wood line, #bisazza called upon the creative talent of four designers from the Flemish-Dutch area. Nynke Tynagel and Job Smeets, the illustrious Studio Job, that has partnered with #bisazza for ten years; #kikivaneijk, prominent representative of the new generation of Dutch #design, and Edward van Vliet, Amsterdam-based designer already author of mosaic patterns for #bisazza.
WOOD is a line of oak #parquet available in the following formats: square (20x20cm), hexagonal (20x23cm), herringbone (30x10cm) and plank (60x10 cm). Five new colours - Sugar, Cherry, Pearl, Denim and Mint - have been added to the existing five shades - Cuoio, Marron Glacé, Naturale, Moka and Notte. Enhancing the solid colours in the collection are new, laser-engraved decorative elements.
STUDIO JOB
With their unmistakable stylistic sense and usual note of wry humor, the Studio Job duo put their personal stamp on the classic #parquet. Through 3D geometric patterns and trompe l'oeil - Cannage, Plissage, Bloc, Zig Zag and Escalier - pair natural tones with brilliant colors and combine them with different-shaped elements in wood. In the Gingham pattern, small, laser-engraved animal skeletons, typical figures in their iconographic language that are also featured in the mosaic #design Perished, stand out against a colored checkerboard, reminiscent of the classic English pattern of squares.
“A new material, the same principle; arrange geometric shapes into pattern, compose elements into illustration, turning flat into 3-D, trompe-l’oeil illusions. Twist natural colour into artificial, engraved with the unexpected, a contemporary approach to wooden flooring.”
Nynke Tynagel, Studio Job
EDWARD VAN VLIET
Edward Van Vliet finds inspiration in timeless symbolic elements and introduces serpentine geometries generated by the spirograph to create the his patterns: Hillstar, Astrakhan, Pirouette, Faraday and Fidelio.
“I specifically chose the hexagon as the basis for my designs because it gives three dimensional effects from every angle. The hexagon is a symbol of creation and revolution in all religions and cultures; it is connected to nature and for me it is a more organic shape, since it is close to a circle. The geometric decoration of the spirograph and the star emphasise the different directions - it is reminiscent, in fact, of the wind rose that guides travelers all around the world.”

KIKI VAN EIJK
Kiki van Eijk allows her feminine style to shine through in this new #parquet collection.
Flowers and designs reminiscent of wild vegetation, recurring elements in her decorations, seem to sprout from the floor in the laser-engraved patterns: Middle, Central, Path, Floral and Outside.
