Mazda DJ competition: finalists face off on 11 June

The MazdaSounds Live Showdown gets going on Saturday, 11 June in #barcelona, where 20 finalists will vie for the opportunity to perform live at Tomorrowland 2016. The six best chosen by the jury during the final round of the “Mazda Drives: The Sound Of Tomorrow” DJ contest get to play a 60-minute set on the #mazda Sound Of Tomorrow Island stage at the music festival, which takes place on 22-24 July in Boom, Belgium.

Selected by music fans from among 1,042 entrants to the competition, the remaining contestants hail from across Europe, with three each from Germany, Spain and Switzerland, two from the Netherlands and the UK, and one apiece from Austria, Belgium, France, Italy, Poland, Portugal and Romania.

Prior to the actual competition on Saturday afternoon, the finalists will take part in four mentoring sessions at #mazda Space. Groups of five will rotate through the workshops, which include a mixing skills session hosted by Felix De Laet, a Belgian star DJ known as Lost Frequencies who is also Mazda’s ambassador for the #mazda Drives: The Sound Of Tomorrow campaign. The remaining three sessions, to be hosted by other members of the jury, will focus on topics like self-marketing for DJs. After these sessions, the competitors will head over to a special location for the MazdaSounds Live Showdown to compete for what could be their long sought-after break. Each DJ will play a 15-minute set, with the winners to be announced in the evening.

“We’re looking forward to Saturday’s activities and are very excited about seeing these young artists live in action,” says #mazda Motor Europe Vice President Communications Wojciech Halarewicz. “It could be a very significant moment for some of them. We may even be the first witnesses to some musical innovation that will resonate for years to come. Coming from #mazda, we can certainly respect that.”

Mazda is again the exclusive automotive partner to Tomorrowland this year. It’s a logical collaboration: Both organisations strive to enrich lives with an honest and accessible approach to their respective businesses, whether it’s the festival’s music and progressive ambience or vehicles like the #mazda #mx5 and #mazda #cx3 – Mazda’s two latest models – that deliver a positive, uplifting experience with every drive. As one of the Europe’s most imaginative places, #barcelona offered the idea setting for the #mazda Drives: The Sound Of Tomorrow DJ competition. #mazda Space, too, extends its mission as a facility developed to inspire new ideas by encouraging thought, discussion and learning.
