Yamaha makes strong Enduro 2 class return at GP of Morocco

Eight years after winning the coveted #enduro2 World Championship title Yamaha successfully returned to the sharp end of the class' results with the all-new WR450F machine.

Officially representing Yamaha in the Blue Ribbon category, Outsiders #yamaharacing Team riders Loic Larrieu and Cristobal Guerrero complete the season opening GP of Morocco having battled for the podium on both days.

With the 2016 Enduro World Championship visiting North Africa for the first time, Outsiders #yamaharacing Team riders faced two challenging days of #racing in dry and dusty conditions in Agadir.

Making his international debut aboard the all-new Yamaha WR450F, Loic Larrieu showed that he's ready to fight for the podium in the highly competitive #enduro2 class of the World Championship.

Starting day one with times inside the top six of the #enduro2 class, he kept building on his speed as the race progressed. Involved in a day-long battle for fourth with American Taylor Robert, Larrieu eventually finally placed a strong fifth in #enduro2.

Despite increasingly challenging conditions on day two, Larrieu showed he was determined to battle for the podium. Attacking hard on the last of three long and demanding laps, the WR450F mounted rider claimed an improved fourth place result to end his first GP with Yamaha on a high note.

Earning winning results in his pre-season national races, Cristobal Guerrero was eager to kick off his world championship season aboard the new WR450F.

Racing in dry and familiar conditions the Spaniard made a series of small mistakes on day one but pushed hard to regain the lost time. At the end of the day he placed sixth in #enduro2.

Cristobal came back stronger on day two, battling for the top five in what where extremely difficult conditions. Unable to respond to the increase in pace from his Outsiders #yamaharacing teammate at the mid-way point of the day, Cristobal placed fifth at the end of the day two.

The 2016 FIM Enduro World Championship moves on to Gouveia in Portugal for the second round of the series on April 16/17.

Loic Larrieu - Outsiders Yamaha Official #enduro2 Team5th Day 1/ 4th Day 2

"It's always good to arrive at the finish of the first GP. Always, there's a lot of work goes into being ready for this event, and for me it went pretty well. It was a difficult GP - the hot weather, long days and difficult terrain made it hard. The dry, rocky terrain was really challenging, it was hard to feel comfortable. Pushing just a little too hard, well, it was very easy to make a mistake. I improved throughout the first day, just my first lap wasn't great. I just couldn't find my rhythm. Day two was similar. I started steadily and then improved. I crashed once and made some small mistakes, but I made a good final lap. Overall, I'm pleased with my riding and with my bike. I just need to get myself up to speed a little faster at the next GP in Portugal."

Cristobal Guerrero - Outsiders Yamaha Official #enduro2 Team6th Day 1/ 5th Day 2

"It was a big surprise for me on the first day because normally these dry, dusty conditions are exactly what I like. But like a lot of riders I struggled to find a good rhythm. That was a little disappointing as I was hoping to be more competitive. Things were better on the second day for me. I felt better and was closer to the top guys in my class. I'm happy to get to the finish of this race because the conditions were really tough - a number of riders have picked up injuries. I had a good battle with my teammate Loic and also Taylor Robert. I made two mistakes, but for everything else I'm pleased. Now that we have completed one GP we know that everything is good with the bike, so I hope I can fight for the podium in Portugal."
