Displaying their books and media in hundreds of booths are publishers large and small from across of the world. Big brand names and publishing companies sit side-by-side new start-up ventures coming to the #fair for the first time. The 2016 Children’s Book #fair – to be held from 4th to 7th April – will feature all the well-known areas, as well as many new features. One of these is the new #bologna Digital Media Hall opening for the first time in Hall 32

 

“Fuel the Imagination”: this new line of business will be put into expanded in 2016 with this dynamic new venue – from 4th to 6th April –  to be found in Hall 32. Here, publishers, developers, TV and movie producers, animation studios, artists and authors can gather to collaborate on business opportunities with start-ups and household brands from the rapidly growing digital world. From 2011, the digital sector has broadened enormously, making new media an increasingly important to the tradeshow section. Today more than ever the #bologna Children’s Book #fair is a powerhouse fuelling the imagination brining the creative and business communities under one roof for the first time to explore new opportunities.

The Illustrators Exhibition, a cornerstone feature of the #bologna Children’s Book #fair, this year celebrates its 50th year. Each year it has displayed the most outstanding new and well-established talents, all selected by a jury of experts. This year’s anniversary comes just after the Children’s Book #fair celebrated its 50th year in 2013, a landmark achievement confirming BolognaFiere’s acclaimed record in organizing international cultural events.

 

The prize - known as the #bologna Ragazzi Award - is a major acknowledgement of publishing excellence. It is also – and perhaps primarily - an enormous international copyright business opportunity.This year the BRAW has a special category for publications on disability. Then there is the #bologna Ragazzi Digital Award for excellence in the field of interactive apps for children and young adults. Publishers too have a Best Children’s Publisher of the Year Prize (BOP)that each year acknowledges the most significantly enterprising publisher in the six main areas of the world, giving them a place on this prestigious international stage.

 

This year too will be marked by new features. 2016 will see the first Strega Ragazze e Ragazzi the Strega Prizepromoted by the #bologna Children’s Book #fair, the Maria and Goffredo Bellonic Foundation, and Strega Alberti Benevento together with the Centre for Books and Reading and with the support of BPER and Unindustria #bologna.


This year’s Guest of Honour Country is Germany. Organised by the Frankfurt Book #fair and the Goethe Institut Italia, the aptly named Exhibition Look! puts 30 of Germany’s best contemporary illustrators centre stage in some three hundred square metres packed with talent and imagination.
