Charlie Ladell, WDE Motorsport together again for 2016 Renault UK Clio Cup season

Charlie Ladell (Bury St Edmunds) has become the second driver inside a week to announce he will race for the WDE Motorsport team in 2016’s #renault #uk #cliocup.

Ladell finished an impressive fifth overall in 2015’s #uk #cliocup with the Ashford-based squad – indeed four fourth-place results were proof of how close he came to an outright podium finish.

The 19-year-old was also second in the Graduates category for young drivers in their first full year in the championship (he had previously made his debut in 2014). He will therefore surely go into the 2016 season as a potential race-winner and even title challenger.

Ladell commented: “I’m definitely targeting the top three in the championship and know the areas where I need to improve – a fraction more pace in qualifying so I’m starting that bit higher up the grid and better consistency in my results. With that I know the podiums and hopefully even a few wins will start to come although, as I discovered last year, the #uk #cliocup is massively competitive. It’s down to me.”

Last week Rory Green (Hildenborough) announced he will also stay with WDE for a second #uk #cliocup campaign in 2016. WDE Team Principal Wayne Eason said: “Continuity plays a huge part in achieving the big results so naturally we are delighted to have Charlie joining Rory with us again for the season ahead. Charlie’s speed and aggression last year were very evident – on occasion he even had our triple Champion Paul Rivett looking over his shoulder – and with some nurturing he could very definitely become one of the top names on the grid in 2016.”

And added Renaultsport’s #uk Championship Manager Will Fewkes: “Charlie showed a lot of potential in 2015 and, with WDE’s mentoring, I would expect him to become a real front-running force in 2016. Charlie’s recommitment to the #uk #cliocup also further underlines just how big an attraction the championship is for exciting young driver talent with serious ambitions of graduating to touring cars, GT or sportscar competition.”

All 18 races on the 2016 #renault #uk #cliocup calendar will take place at the Dunlop British Touring Car Championship’s high-profile events – meaning huge trackside crowds and live television coverage on the ITV4 channel. The first two races take place at WDE’s home circuit of Brands Hatch in Kent on Sat 2/Sun 3 April.
