Gas takes its “denim culture armada” to pitti

At Pitti, GAS puts its over thirty years’ experience and know-how to work to dress a peaceful army in an indigo denim (anti) uniform. Jeans, always synonymous with freedom and change, now becomes symbolic of a culture of renewal and self-determination for the Vicenza-based company, one of Italy’s foremost interpreters of denim.
No other garment adapts to a person’s individual style and reflects their personality like jeans do. No fabric changes over time and carries the evidence of the wearer’s lifestyle like denim does.

In a futuristic setting, GAS celebrates its DNA, its history, and above all, its future. Its long-lasting relationship with denim has marked the brand’s growth and international recognisability, and continues to be its driving force and the core element around which the collections revolve.
If it’s true that jeans were invented across the ocean as strong, hard-wearing work pants, it is thanks to Italian taste and style that they have become a cult piece with a high fashion content. A perfect union of the authentic flavour of denim and technological innovation combined with all-Italian style and artisanal skill is what GAS wants to celebrate with this collection.

Denim from head to toe. Over forty total looks in which research and innovation, among the most cutting-edge in the industry, are expressed to their maximum potential in the Artisanal Room, the company’s research and development laboratory.
For him, the parka, the military-inspired piece that has crossed eras and changing styles without losing its character, is given a complete all-denim makeover. The blue canvas is bonded with heat-regulating, breathable jersey, and indigo printed zip tapes, metal accessories and stitching are all in tone. The double rainbow logo on the sleeve is heat-pressed.

A sartorially-inspired range has been created for dedicated followers of the denim cult. The blazer in iridescent-effect indigo canvas or open weave wide rib fabric has trims and inside pockets in micro-patterned fabric with a tailor made effect. References to tailoring can also be seen in the lightweight denim waistcoat with welt pockets and contrast back, or the reversible version in bonded grey melange jersey and micro patterned back. Meticulous attention is given to every aspect of the 100% Made in Italy 5 pocket jeans, a perfect balance of innovation and craftsmanship. Details such as the loops, top stitching, selvedge-effect side seams and bartacks recall the colours of the Italian flag to underscore their provenance and make each single item special.

Iconic shirts are revamped with a chameleon-like attitude. The urban interpretation has an essential look. An ironic touch is given by the single breast pocket that turns inside out to form a pouch. The classic shaped-yoke style is revisited in denim with a tie-design jacquard pattern and micro and macro checks, or features an original aubergine coating subjected to aggressive sandpapering and stone washing to reveal the denim base and create shiny/matt contrasts and unexpected colour nuances.

Fleece, the sportswear fabric par excellence, is the natural complement to denim, to the extent that it even takes on its appearance. Indigo yarn-dyed fleece is washed and given vintage treatments as if it were jeans, or overprinted with a tone on tone all-over tropical leaves pattern.
Actual jeans have an authentic, lived-in look in a modern version. Heat taped seams – GAS patent pending – in gold and silver metallic versions, are visible when the bottom of the jeans are rolled up, as dictated by the latest fashion trend. Technological innovations so become style accents for an easy look with refined details. Destroyed and earth-effect dirtying treatments are embellished with a gold coating. Washes explore the various directions of “raw used”, a lived-in, authentic look but with a discreet, sophisticated allure. The range goes from treatments with sandpapering and light washes, to heavier but still sober, unexaggerated ones with mends and patches that use tone on tone threads, patches, color spots and dirtying.

The GAS woman reinterprets the strength and character of denim in apparel with a metropolitan look. Overalls, in pant or skirt version, takes on a feminine, sophisticated and personal feel with a mix of denim fabrics with different weights and finishes – jacquard, selvedge or metallic coatings.
The iridescent chintzed denim bodycon dress features sensuality with essential lines, in typical GAS style.

On the other hand, overalls in plated blue-black denim, and the boyfriend five pocket jeans define a relaxed, unconventional femininity that is never overstated.
A mix of quilted patterns feature on denim used for the bomber. The timeless peacoat surprises with a very particular Prince of Wales check in 3D-effect bouclé denim yarn, also used for the collarless jacket with fringed edges. The lived-in look is obtained with a special rag wash that acts on the different thickness of the weave to create faded and uneven chiaroscuro effects. The same treatment is used on the denim army-look parka with tone on tone fur lining and trims.

Also for her, iconic shirts evolve in jacquard fabrics or micro pattern prints, leather-effect coatings, oversize volumes, asymmetries, mandarin collars or shirt-fronts with metallic coatings. The waistcoat, a hot trend, is presented in a patchwork of different denims, while the tuxedo-inspired jacket is in a fine selvedge-edge indigo fabric.
