Rory Green sticks with WDE Motorsport for second season in #renault #uk #cliocup in 2016
#rorygreen (Hildenborough) has announced he will again race for the WDE Motorsport team in 2016’s #renault #uk #cliocup.
Green, aged 21, achieved a best race result of fifth in his debut #uk #cliocup season last year with the Ashford-based WDE squad. Now he hopes to build on that form and emerge as a regular front-runner in the championship.
All of the #uk #clio Cup’s races in 2016 will take place at the Dunlop British Touring Car Championship’s high-profile events – meaning huge trackside crowds and live television coverage on ITV4. The first of those events takes place at Green’s and WDE’s home circuit of Brands Hatch in Kent (Sat 2/Sun 3 April).
Green commented: “I’m very happy to be back with WDE – I learnt a lot with them in 2015 and as my confidence in the car grew the results and lap times kept on improving. I hope I can put that to good use and hit the ground running when the new season starts at Brands Hatch.
“My studies for my final business management exams at university will mean I have to miss the two events after that – at Donington Park and Thruxton – but I’ll be back at Oulton Park in June for the rest of the season.”
WDE Team Principal Wayne Eason said: “It’s great to have Rory back on board for 2016. We knew all along that when it clicked for Rory it would really click and things certainly started to gel very nicely for him in the second half of the 2015 season. I predict he will come back strongly and with a lot more assertiveness in 2016 as a result of everything he learnt last year.
“We are also close to announcing our other drivers and are hopeful this will be in the coming weeks – since the middle of last year we have certainly had a lot of enquiries about our #uk #cliocup programme for 2016. People have really seen the quality of the championship and the product and know it’s the place to be.”
Renaultsport’s #uk Motorsport Championship Manager Will Fewkes added: “Rory was a very popular driver in our paddock in 2015 and we’re very pleased to see him back with us for the new season ahead. I am sure he is in for some very competitive outings. It is heart-warming too to see WDE’s continuing their solid reputation for nurturing talent. Likewise their plans falling into place having clearly demonstrated in 2015 that they are capable of challenging for pole positions, race wins and the title.”
