Mercedes-AMG #dtm driver #pauldiresta (Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM) finished on the podium in second place in the second race at the Nürburgring. A strong team performance by the Mercedes-AMG #dtm Team was rounded off by #pascalwehrlein (gooix Mercedes-AMG C 63 #dtm, fifth place), #maximiliangtz (Mercedes-AMG C 63 #dtm, sixth place) and #danieljuncadella (PETRONAS Mercedes-AMG C 63 #dtm, tenth place). So, four Mercedes-AMG #dtm drivers placed in the Top Ten. Wehrlein secured a points-scoring finish for the 14th time in 16 races – more than any other driver in the field. Fifth place enabled him to extend his lead in the drivers' standings before the season finale at Hockenheim. He is now 37 points up on Audi driver Edoardo Mortara. In addition, gooix/Original-TeileMercedes-AMG also top the #dtm team standings with a lead of 40 points. Some 69,000 spectators came through the gates over the weekend to watch the two races in the Eifel. Christian Vietoris (Original-Teile #mercedes C 63 DTM) finished his home race in 14th place. Lucas Auer (BWT #mercedes C 63 DTM) crossed the line in P19. Gary Paffett (EURONICS Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM) retired after eight laps. Robert Wickens (SILBERPFEIL Energy #mercedes AMG C 63 DTM) also had to retire with damage to his suspension after a collision at the start. The next race weekend: The finale of the 2015 #dtm season will take place in Hockenheim from 16th-18th October with a home race for Mercedes-Benz. Comments after the race #pauldiresta (29, Scotland): • P2 • Car number: 3 • Team: SILBERPFEIL Energy Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-AMG #dtm Team HWA) • Car: Mercedes-AMG C 63 #dtm “I’ve felt good in the car for the whole of the weekend. Unfortunately, I made an error in yesterday’s qualifying. We had a strong car yesterday but were unable to show it. In contrast, things went well today. However, this was Miguel Molina’s day, and I congratulate him on his first win. After this result, we’ll be heading for the grand finale at Hockenheim in an optimistic frame of mind.” #pascalwehrlein (20, Germany): • P5 • Car number: 94 • Team: gooix/Original-Teile Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-AMG #dtm Team HWA) • Car: gooix Mercedes-AMG C 63 #dtm “I had another great start in this race. I’ve been very happy with my starts this weekend and have gained position every time. My first lap was also decent. I then had a cool fight with Augusto which was a lot of fun. He’s always very fair, and so I knew that it would be tough but fair. And that’s exactly how it was. Losing three positions during the pit stop was annoying, but it was a great team effort in the end.” #maximiliangtz (29, Germany): • P6 • Car number: 84 • Team: PETRONAS Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-AMG #dtm Team Mücke) • Car: Mercedes-AMG C 63 #dtm “That was a great race. The warm-up and qualifying this morning also went well. In the race itself, I got off to a good start and gained one position. I was then behind Pascal, who I overtook with a slick pit stop. After that, I had great straight-line speed and was driving a pretty solitary race for a while. Towards the end, Pascal was closing the gap. In that sort of situation, you have to remember the principle of ‘One Team, One Vision’. After he had overtaken me, I had to defend the position against Rockenfeller, which I succeeded in doing. I’m satisfied with P6. Two good results at the Nürburgring make this a fabulous weekend for me.” #danieljuncadella (24, Spain): • P10 • Car number: 12 • Team: PETRONAS Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-AMG #dtm Team Mücke) • Car: PETRONAS Mercedes-AMG C 63 #dtm “My start and my first lap were very good. Then I was overtaking Glock on the ninth corner when he turned into me, destroying the right-hand side of my car. Despite that, I was able to overtake Max and Augusto, because they were busy fighting with each other. So that put me into P6 ahead of the pit stop. While I was closing the gap on Blomqvist, I unfortunately lost grip because of the damage to my car. Towards the end, I was also having a bit of a problem with my brakes. I gave it everything I’d got and tried to stay inside the points. It was a tough fight with all the other guys, but I did succeed in scoring one championship point.” Christian Vietoris (26, Germany): • P14 • Car number: 8 • Team: gooix/Original-Teile Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-AMG #dtm Team HWA) • Car: Original-Teile Mercedes-AMG C 63 #dtm “That was a tough weekend, the third in a row. We still have a chance this season in the finale at Hockenheim, where we intend to attack once more. I hope we can score again to round off the year.” Lucas Auer (21, Austria): • P19 • Car number: 22 • Team: EURONICS/BWT Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-AMG #dtm Team ART) • Car: BWT Mercedes-AMG C 63 #dtm “My start was OK, likewise the first lap. I got through that part well, but before the race got going in earnest, I had to return to the pits because my engine was running too hot. After that, I just drove my own race and was able to try a few things out.” Gary Paffett (34, England): • retired • Car number: 2 • Team: EURONICS/BWT Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-AMG #dtm Team ART) • Car: EURONICS Mercedes-AMG C 63 #dtm “We had an engine failure in the morning, so we had to change the engine. It was a lot of work to do in a short amount of time. The guys did a great job to get the car back together, but we just seemed to be down on power on the straights. We don’t know what’s wrong yet.” Robert Wickens (26, Canada): • retired • Car number: 6 • Team: SILBERPFEIL Energy Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-AMG #dtm Team HWA) • Car: SILBERPFEIL Energy Mercedes-AMG C 63 #dtm “I qualified seventh today. I had a lot of hope for the race after that. Unfortunately, I got taken out in Turn 1. I was in the middle of the track when someone turned into the side of me and ruined my race. And that was it. My year seemed to be getting better recently, but it’s actually just like it was before. My focus is now on Hockenheim.” Ulrich Fritz, Head of Mercedes-AMG #dtm: “All in all, that was a decent race for us. #pauldiresta especially produced an excellent performance and drove a faultless race. Also, #pascalwehrlein extended his lead yet again in the drivers’ championship and we also moved up one position in the manufacturers' rankings. Consequently, we are well placed for the start of the season finale at Hockenheim.”
