“Vacheron Constantin – artists of time”

On the occasion of its 260th #anniversary of uninterrupted history and expertise, the Geneva-based Manufacture is publishing a beautiful book retracing its epic story, narrated by Franco Cologni. Born of a philosophy faithfully perpetuated since 1755, “Vacheron Constantin - Artists of Time” highlights the tradition of Fine Watchmaking and the transmission of a unique expertise, nurtured by the quest for #excellence that drives the watchmakers and masters of art exercising their skills within the Maison. Since September 17th 1755, when Jean-Marc Vacheron laid the foundations of the company by hiring his first apprentice, Vacheron Constantin has ceaselessly expressed its passion for Fine Watchmaking through its values. In giving the firm a commercial dimension from 1819 onwards, François Constantin established its worldwide renown. A reputation that was acknowledged by the greatest collectors: Reference 57260, a bespoke creation, is now part of the rich history of the Manufacture alongside the famous pocket watches made for James W. Packard, the Count of Boisrouvray as well as kings Fouad and Farouk of Egypt. Across 260 years, the creativity cultivated by Vacheron Constantin has constantly evolved in the service of perfect technical mastery. How is such continuity possible? How has Vacheron Constantin succeeded in shining among the brightest stars in the watchmaking firmament despite repeated political and economic turbulence? This fascinating publication written by Franco Cologni invites readers on a journey to the heart of an astonishing saga peppered with original anecdotes. Pictures by photographer Bruno Ehrs portray a range of expertise and artistic crafts, aesthetic harmony and elegant finishes, unveiling watches from the brand’s heritage collection as well as from private collections, alongside archive documents and more recent models. These beautifully illustrated pages offer intriguing dialogues between tributes to the past and a constant desire for innovation, between openness to the world and a determination to push the boundaries of feasibility. This extremely well documented art book will doubtless become a reference work for all those who follow the Maison with passionate interest.
