Aumentare il numero di visitatori di aree protette può essere uno strumento efficace per la conservazione e lo sviluppo delle comunità, purché ben funzionante nei sistemi di gestione, secondo un nuovo rapporto presentato al IUCN Congresso Mondiale dei Parchi che si terrà a Sydney, in Australia. Evidenziando una raccolta globale di casi di studio dal Machu Picchu in Perù al Damaraland Camp in Namibia, il rapporto IUCN, turismo e gestione dei visitatori nelle aree protette comprende i contributi provenienti da più di 50 esperti provenienti da 23 paesi e territori, ed esempi provenienti da oltre 45 paesi in tutto il mondo. "A differenza di altre industrie e attività umane, il turismo nelle aree protette può essere una forza positiva - aumentare il senso di gestione e ricavi che sono vitali per la protezione a lungo termine di queste importanti aree protette", ha detto il dottor Yu-Fai Leung , il capo redattore del report e membro della IUCN WCPA Turismo e Aree Protette Specialist Group.
