From the very beginning, The I.C.E. St. Moritz has been a Concours d'Elégance immersed in nature – an automotive adventure in a venue that can only exist in winter.
And when the natural cycle of the elements allows it. In a highly organised and predictable contemporary world, we have always embraced the unpredictable. And the unpredictability of nature has made the 2024 edition impossible, at least in its well-known and established form.
Demonstrating its unbound creativity (and an odd sense of humour), mother nature did not give us the perfect white canvas – it gave us too much snow. After everyone had worked without respite during the last months to make this year's edition of The I.C.E. St. Moritz even more captivating and exciting, last week's extraordinary snowfall (that temporarily isolated the whole Engadine valley) forced us to cancel the event entirely.
Despite St. Moritz was snowed in and under, still the Serletta Parking was full of the world's most exciting automobiles, and The I.C.E. (International Concours of Elegance) turned into an "Indoor Concours of Elegance", with the Jury evaluating the participating cars right inside the garage.
The 'Barchettas on the Lake' class was won by a beautiful 1950 Talbot Lago T26 GS, while a stunning 1938 Delage D8-120S coachbuilt by de Villars claimed the win in the 'Icons on Wheels' class. Among the 'Concept Cars & One-Offs' it was the otherworldly 1979 Aston Martin Bulldog that convinced the jury, while a spectacular and highly competitive 1962 Cooper Maserati T81 received the trophy among the 'Open Wheels' racecars. A 1963 Ferrari 275 P that had won twice in Le Mans beat its competition among the 'Racing Legends'. After carefully inspecting and discussing these incredible pieces of automotive history, the jury finally decided to dedicate the 'Best in Show' trophy to the multi award-winning Delage D8-120S – that was later seen driving off through the snowstorm with the top open, in true St. Moritz style.
Everyone's solidarity and comprehension, together with the unbound spirit of St. Moritz, has allowed to turn an unfortunate situation into a spontaneous and unexpected gathering to remember.
