RESENDE, Brazil (Jan. 29, 2018) – A major milestone was achieved this week by Nissan’s Resende Industrial Complex, in Rio de Janeiro State in Brazil. Less than four years since start of operations, Nissan’s plant in Brazil has produced its 200,000th engine – a 1.6-liter, 16V fourcylinder unit. This extremely energy efficient engine powers three Nissans made in Resende: March, Versa and Kicks. The plant also manufactures the 1.0-liter, 12V engine that equips the Nissan March and Nissan Versa.

This production milestone reflects the fact that that the Resende Industrial Complex is operating at a fast tempo to meet Nissan’s business expansion in the Latin America region. Since start of operations in April 2014, a number of achievements have been made: Last November, the manufacturing site announced that 20,000 cars have been made for export, and in September (it had reported the production of 150,000 cars.

“Every new milestone achieved further demonstrates the strategic position held by the Resende Industrial Complex in Nissan’s corporate strategy both in Brazil and Latin America,” said Hitoshi Mano, Nissan’s Divisional VP Monozukuri LATAM. “Production of our 200,000 engine is a landmark that confirms our capacity to meet a growing demand in Brazil and elsewhere in the region.”
