Gazprom and Avtodor to jointly develop roadside infrastructure

Alexey Miller, Chairman of the #gazprom Management Committee, and #sergeykelbakh, Chairman of the Board of the Russian Highways State Company (Avtodor), today signed an Agreement of Cooperation at the Russian Investment Forum in Sochi.
The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Maxim Sokolov, Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation.
Pursuant to the document, the parties intend to jointly develop roadside infrastructure, as well as to work out and adopt new methods and approaches in establishing mixed-use highway service areas along Avtodor’s motor roads that are in operation or under construction.
This cooperation will encompass the creation of a multi-fuel filling station network for vehicles driven by liquid fuel, CNG and LNG. Such filling stations may be deployed, inter alia, along the M-11 Moscow – St. Petersburg and Central Ring Road highways currently under construction.The parties also agree to cooperate in establishing mixed-use highway service areas along Avtodor’s roads. In addition to multi-fuel filling stations, the areas will have parking spaces, rest stops for drivers and passengers, trade and catering zones, and other facilities. For instance, there are plans to create such comprehensive service areas along the Russian part of a prospective international transport corridor between Europe and Western China.
Background
The Russian Highways State Company (Avtodor) was established in 2009. The company aims to expand the network of toll highways, attract extrabudgetary investments, and develop the roadside service infrastructure.
The company carries out trust management over the following highways: M-1 Belarus, M-4 Don, M-3 Ukraine, and M-11 Moscow – St. Petersburg (currently under construction). Avtodor is also responsible for the construction of the Central Ring Road in Moscow and the Moscow Region.
Avtodor is engaged in a number of promising projects, such as the construction of the Europe – Western China international transport corridor’s section between the St. Petersburg – Kazan – Orenburg highway and the border with the Republic of Kazakhstan. The total length of the route in Russia will be around 2,300 kilometers.
Avtodor implements all of its major projects through public–private partnerships.
The company’s development concept for roadside service infrastructure stipulates the creation of mixed-use highway service areas. These comprehensive service sites will provide a full road service package to highway drivers.
