Canter E-Cell in the limelight at the "Freight in the City" fair in London

Stuttgart / #london - The electric-powered #canterecell is also a subject of great interest in Great Britain. As demonstrated most recently at the "Freight in the City" fair in #london, where the first all-electric distribution #truck nearing production level had its premiere on the island, attracting attention from numerous potential buyers.

The environment-friendly six-tonner has also been presented in various markets on the continent, and has successfully completed a twelve-month customer trial phase in Portugal, during which eight vehicles were in service with various customers in cities such as Lisbon, Cascais and Porto. With operating ranges in the order of 100 km, the #canterecell trucks surpassed the average daily distance typically covered by many of the trucks used in distribution haulage. The electric-powered Canter E-Cells are currently being used by Stuttgart's municipal public services and the Hermes parcel delivery service.

The beating heart of the compact six-tonner consists of four state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery packs with a capacity of 48.4 kW/h which supply emission-free drive energy to a magneto-electric motor in the Canter's drivetrain. This motor delivers an output of 110 kW (150 hp), with peak torque of 650 Nm available directly from pulling-away motor speed.

The batteries are charged overnight at the standard 230 V mains or at an in-house charging station with a 360 V/100 amp connection. With the latter option, the underfloor battery can be charged to 80 percent capacity within an hour.

For the purposes of pedestrian protection in traffic-calmed zones, the Fuso #canterecell is equipped with a sound generator which can simulate engine noise when necessary.

Successor model eCanter with permissible gross vehicle weight of 7.5 t

The "eCanter" successor model has already been presented at the 2016 IAA Commercial Vehicles Show in Hanover, and a small series is to be delivered to customers in the course of this year. In contrast to the current six-tonner with a payload of three tonnes, the new model will be a 7.5-tonner with a further optimised payload.

With the classic diesel-powered model, the diesel-electric hybrid and the all-electric E-Cell, the Canter model series boasts the broadest spectrum of drive options in the light-duty #truck segment.
