Podium second for Ryan Dungey at Phoenix Supercross

Comunicato Stampa disponibile solo in lingua originale.

Ryan Dungey and Marvin Musquin were both placed in the second 450 #supercross heat of the evening. Dungey got out to an early lead and rode a flawless race. He led all six laps to easily claim the heat race win while Musquin put together a solid effort to finish in second place to qualify into the main #event

Main Event
When the gate dropped for the main, both Red Bull #ktm riders stumbled off the line and came around the first corner back in 15th and 16th position. In his usual attacking form, Dungey quickly advances up to 11th place before the riders entered the whoops, while Musquin was ticked in behind him. The championship leader quickly worked his way back to sixth place in the next three laps and then began to chip away at the top five.

At the halfway point Dungey had already made it through the pack and into podium position while Musquin had moved to sixth. Shortly after, Musquin tipped over and lost a couple positions. Dungey continued to push out front and was able to make a pass on Eli Tomac with a few laps remaining to take over second place. Musquin, who dropped back to ninth place when he tipped over, held onto that top ten position until the end of the race while Dungey crossed the finish line in second to hold onto the red number plate going into the next round.

“This track was tough tonight,” stated Dungey. “I really had to work for each position and the top riders were running well. I’m glad I was able to get around Tomac at the end and gain some valuable points.”

Troy Lee Designs Red Bull KTM’s Mitchell Oldenburg backs up strong performance in 250SX Round 5
Mitchell Oldenburg backed up his great ride in Oakland with a solid fourth-place result in the series’ first trip outside California. Oldenburg put together good starts and consistent laps to finish just off the podium and propel him to seventh in the point’s standings.

While Oldenburg’s practice times weren’t where he wanted them to be, he made the most of a long start straight and grabbed great starts in both the heat race and main #event

In the main #event, he was up front a majority of the race, eventually finishing just off the podium in fourth.

“I’m really happy that we’ve been able to put together a few good weekends,” said Oldenburg. “We have a few races before the break to get up on the podium where I think we have the speed to be. I’ve always liked San Diego so we’ll see if we can make it happen.”
