Organic Denmark - Minister for Environment and Food attends BioFach 2016

Danish organics is world known for high quality, #food safety and product development, says the Minister for Environment and #food, Eva Kjer Hansen, who opens the Danish joint stand at the world’s leading trade fair for organic #food in February. The support to the organic export initiative is record-setting. 47 Danish companies participate with their organic products - ready to meet buyers from all over the world.
When the world’s leading organic trade fair for organic #food takes places from 10 -13 February 2016, #organicdenmark and the network #bio aus Dänemark are behind a record-setting export initiative, which will boost the Danish organic export even more.
Per Kølster, President of #organicdenmark, is happy that the Minister for Environment and #food attends and opens the Danish stand.
- This shows the government’s recognition of the organic importance for the Danish agricultural export. Denmark is the world leading organic nation, and it arouses great international attention, that we have the world’s highest organic share. Furthermore, the export of Danish organics is an area that experiences a significant growth, says Per Kølster and adds:
- For many years, the Danish organic policy has been two-sided, as it has both been investing in developing the organic production as well as the organic market. It is positive that the minister backs up the Danish organic companies by ensuring subsidies, that promotes the export and by showing interest in the area as well as participating in the fair. It gives the Danish organic companies even more visibility, which is crucial on a big international fair.

There is every indication that the demand for Danish organics will continue to increase, which is why we have allocated means to promote the export of Danish organics in the new #food and Agricultural package, says Eva Kjer Hansen.
Many new organic products
Among the 47 exhibitors on the Danish joint stand, you will find products ranging from organic dairy products, eggs, meat and flour to raw snacks, beverages, marmalades and pickled beetroots.
- Together they represent a wide selection of innovative, organic quality products. On our closest export markets, the demand for organics increases especially Germans, Swedes, Finns and Dutchmen have developed a taste for Danish organic products. We expect that several buyers from international grocery chains and wholesalers will pay the joint stand a visit. We also expect a great interest for Danish organic products from markets outside EU, says International Marketing Director in #organicdenmark, Helene Birk.
The organic market share of the total #food sales in Denmark is 7.6 percent, which is a world record and the positive development is expected to continue.
In 10 years, the Danish export of organic products has increased seven fold. In total, the Danish organic producers have exported goods for 230 million Euro in 2014, which is an increase of 12% compared to the year before. Helene Birk expects that the organic export as a minimum will reach 400 million euro in 2020.
